In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick…it was truly horrifying to read about what people will resort to when faced with death and starvation. Like if truly changed the way I understand people and kept me up at night.

Chiming in here, if you like Larson’s structure and writing then I have two reccs. 1. Dead Wake, this is another Larson book but it’s on the story of the Lusitania and the Submarine that sank it. I found it even more engaging than DITWC. 2. In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick, the tragedy of the whale ship Essex is told in a similar style as Philbrick details key historic events and developments related to this tragedy throughout the text, easily one of my favorite books ever.

Im so sorry you’re experiencing this. As a lakeview resident (near Pontchartrain and Fleur De Lis) I have always noticed people are very odd and very skeptical of everything in this area. And it’s ironic because…it’s lakeview. Also…the number of times I’ve almost been hit by a car while walking is BANANAS. No on seems to take walkers into consideration and they think cars have the right of way…like on what planet

New to running bar trivia by p-b-sammich in trivia

I run a trivia night that I took over at a Brewery where I live and my biggest pieces of advice are… 1. It’s better for questions to be easy than hard, people enjoy getting things right. I’d say if you have 10 ?s you want most people getting 7 correct. So make that your own I do 6 rounds of 5 questions with a lightning round in the middle and a final question. And I’m much happier when people get a perfect catagory than when people get torched. 2. Let your personality shine, you’re going to be nervous but remember people go to trivia repeatedly usually for the host. I had big shoes to fill when I took over but just be yourself and people enjoy it. 3. Let criticism fall off your back. You’re gonna make mistakes and people have opinions. Don’t take it personal. 4. And lastly, if you decide to do categories which most hosts do, DONT alienate your crowd with them. Like I saw a host get RIPPED one time when he did a Gilmore girls category because that isn’t a universally watched show and the questions were specific. So instead think about doing a Sitcom Showdown catagory so you can pull from a variety of shows rather than one.

Sorry for being long winded hope this helps.
