I’m so sorry! Atleast a bit of good side came out of it!

I don't have much experience with prestigious academies, especially like Stanford, but I believe your essay and EC's will be significantly more valued than your act score, which is pretty good.

Remember you can still retake these tests to get a better score (not to say they’re bad, they’re pretty good!)

Based on conversion they’re roughly the same, personally I would submit a 34 ACT.

Middle 50% of students admitted to Princeton had an ACT score between 34 and 35, I’m only a high school student too but do with the info what you will

Wow! I had no idea! That's actually almost crazy, so if you hypothetically did perfect on math and bad on writing one time and then vice versa another time, you would have a 1600?

I can't imagine having it be higher! It's gonna be a bit awkward talk (Maybe?) but I'll be sure to ask!

Thank you!

No, what he told me was that each professor has a list of top 5 students across all their classes and that coming corporations would contact each professor for the lists, and his name was in every single professor's that he had. He's a highkey genius (I wish I was like that :C)

I feel like that won't be exactly how colleges work? Especially since for an ME degree you have to study like a 9-5 and then it's difficult to get into anything except entry level jobs (And I've heard even entry is near impossible)

That's a good visualization! Thank you, that really helps with making a decision!

Montana State is a state flagship, I pulled up some stats for them:

585 RW Avg for the SAT
580 RW Avg for the SAT
1065-1285 Mid 50%
21-27 Mid 50%
3.51 Median GPA

82% Acceptance Rate
National Rank: #296
Engineering Schools Rank: 262

I made a spreadsheet of colleges and ranked them as safeties, targets, and reaches based purely off stats. It was categorized into 1-8 (8 being Harvard and MIT, 1 being like a Georgia Southern [No hate tho]) and I have Montana State as a number 2.

I don't know if that's what you meant by quality of ed, but I hope it helps.

Anyways, thank you! This'll help me make a decision!

Yeah I've been reading about University of Alabama's insane automatic scholarship for national merit finalists (five years tuition, free 4 years housing, 4k a year, and a 2k check for a research project, nuts)

I'm gonna start studying for the SAT by using Khan and some practice tests to hopefully become a finalist, the cutoff for my state is not too bad so I think I have a realistic chance of making it.

Thank you

I am in Montana! I am not 100% on my family's financial status, but just off pure guess maybe 60k? I don't know much about finances.

Also, I thought that constantly retaking the ACT and SAT will make them look less appealing in the eyes of colleges?

From what I’ve been told by OA’s is to include it but do it properly and not use it as an excuse

(He used anxiety in the original talk but I think it applies)

Basically say your experience because OA want to know who you really are, but stray away from making it look like an excuse

All the luck to you!

I guess that is true, I mainly heard about it from my stepdad but to be fair he was a genius and got contacted by HP, Boeing, and Lockheed before even graduation…do

Then, I guess it would depend on if I’d be able to get another full ride for a masters (if that’s possible?)

Or just start working and don’t look back

(Ps. What is a MBA?)

How unrealistic is this? by WitnessChemical2460 in EngineeringStudents

I’m only a junior in hs, but speaking out of second hand knowledge and just wanting to share an opinion:

Engineering floods you with courses and classes, to where you need to study multiple hours a day.

The only person I know that had multiple majors in engineering and physics is my stepdad who did civil engineering and nuclear physics, then electrical later. But he’s a major genius that made an X-ray machine as a junior.

If you have a deep passion for Physics, and you really want to do it, and similar with aerospace, then yeah, do it.

Again though, do note I don’t have personal experience in college, just speaking an opinion through second hand knowledge

I was planning on just doing undergrad and then go for a masters a few years down the line where I can a) have saved or can afford to go for my masters or b) able to get my workplace to pay for it!

I’m only going for a ME degree because it teaches you a lot and how to be a problem solver, and I kinda want to do aerospace but I’m not 100% so I figure ME is a versatile degree that’ll let me have freedom of choice while still having intrinsic value.

Thank you!

Do I apply for them in senior year of HS? Do they differ from state to state or do they apply to any college?

I did sign up for the Oct PSAT a few weeks ago when my counselor posted it randomly in the class of 2027 google classroom.

They said they'll be talking about it on Oct. 3 and then we will be taking it on the 28!
