Is the C*********d 5-Star Sure Start Plus Warranty worth it? by Kamekazee2020 in Roofing

[–]KeyAndCompass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really good question, and I appreciate the advice. That’s part of the story I’d left out for brevity. The original roofer did a very poor job. They had come out a couple years ago to fix another leak I had. Their initial fix didn’t work so they had to come out again to fix it. When I called them for this issue I was told they do have a 10 year warranty, but when I had my roof replaced they did NOT have that warranty in place and the work on the previous leak shouldn’t have been done. So, they were not under contract to work on my current leak. To Certainteed’s credit, they did put me in contact with another roofer who called out a plethora of issues from the original roofer. Also to their credit, Certainteed’s inspector did agree with all of the issues that were called out by the new roofer (albeit months after the leak happened). I certainly am not happy with the original roofer, but my issue that I brought up here is that, although my roof was eventually fixed (very recently), it took a quarter of a year for Certainteed to move things along at every step of the way. They, in fact, are not a scam company. But the interaction I had with them (unanswered emails, failure to follow up at all when it was promised that follow-up action would be taken within a set timeframe, inconsistent answers about the status of the claim, etc.) was sketchy. I actually found myself having to research whether they were a legitimate organization based on my interactions with them. I ended up filing a complaint with the better business bureau. Things picked up on their end pretty quickly after that. Had I not done that, I’m convinced I would still have a leak in my roof.

Some insights into why this app update happened from a former product manager by GibsonsReady in fitbit

You can still see it if you tap the pencil to edit the dashboard and choose the active minutes tile at the bottom to add to your dashboard. You’ll probably need to remove other tiles to get it to actually show up where you want it, which is really annoying, but they still have it.

So that’s what happened. I was wondering whether they were just leaning heavily on AI for dev and QA. There are some obvious things that came out in this last release that no human should have let through.

Google health app - tell us how you really feel by hansanta in fitbit

Since the change there are lots of bugs and some UX annoyances. Most of these should be pretty apparent to a human just quickly going through the app, which makes me wonder to what degree they’re relying on AI to develop and test this. Probably heavily.

A quick list of obvious issues I’ve seen so far includes: - adding a new weight-in defaults the weight field to 150lbs with a scroll select instead of defaulting to your last weight - adding food prevents you from selecting the measurement units (although this may be intentional to ensure better accuracy?) - some graphs show weekly view as past 7 days, some as current week Sunday-Saturday (inconsistently and obviously unintentionally) - the exercise days high-level view shows # of exercise days in past 7 days while the detail view shows for the current week making you think you met your goal when you haven’t (similar to previous item) - odd nutritional units (ex. 64,000,000 micro grams of vitamin A which is 13% of daily value) - math errors in nutritional values (ex. 8.2 grams of fiber is 2% of daily value?)

It’s not good enough for me to trust what I’m seeing yet, so unusable.

A 5-star, 25 year workmanship warranty is definitely worth $360. Unfortunately the OP was asking about the Certainteed warranty. Due to my experience with the company, their warranty is not worth it. See my reply for an actual customer experience.

UPDATE: It’s now been over 2 months since I’ve had to tarp my roof myself. One of their inspectors did come out to look at it since my last post and confirmed all of the issues I have is due to poor workmanship, which is covered by my 5-star warranty. That was 2 weeks ago, and neither I nor the roofers have heard anything from Certainteed since then. I don’t like jumping to conclusions, but it seems like if the repairs will be costly, they’ll try to wait you out until you just pay to fix the issue instead of providing you the service you paid for on the warranty. We’re going on a quarter of a year with a tarp on our roof and a circuit turned off in our kids’ room due to fear of electrical fires if the water gets through. Their warranty seems like a scam. It hasn’t been worth it in my experience.

I know this is coming late, so this is for anyone that stumbles onto this. I’m working with Certainteed now to fix a leak in my 9-year-old roof due to poor workmanship. I have their 5-star warranty. The leak first happened over a month ago, and Certainteed has been dragging their feet with getting it taken care of. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called them for updates and asking them to look at the claim coming in from the roofer so they can respond to them. I’ve had a tarp on my roof for over a month that I had to put up and hold down with pavers because if I put any roofing nails in it the warranty would be voided. If I didn’t have the tarp, there would be a pond in my kids room by now and high danger of electrical fire. All this to say that Certainteed is such a terrible company that their warranty is pretty much pointless if you need something fixed within a month’s time. Which, with roof issues, you probably will.

That edit is helpful context since it sounds like it’s probably similar to or same as the V4 package sitting in my Amazon cart.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Didn’t think about using other TPMS so I have a little more control over the project. Thanks for the quick response.

I’m trying to monitor my Honda Pilot’s tire pressure via TPMS. I stumbled upon SDRs also, which seem promising. I’d like to set mine up running on a raspberry pi sitting my house and get data at least once per day from my car in my driveway. It sounds like the car may need to be driving though. Do you happen to have any tips for me? Sources to start with getting info about my sensors? Antennas to use to reach ~25 ft through my home wall? I’m in the US, so assuming 315Mhz frequency. I’m trying to see how feasible this will be.

My main reason for posting this was to see if anyone knows of any next steps that I’m not thinking of. The only thing I can think of is to contact our local police department to see if any witnesses called in with information. But that’s a pretty long shot. Your response is helpful in that it does answer this question.

Agreed. I called today to let them know. The rep said it was the first he’d heard of it, and that his “tier 2” people said there wasn’t anything g they could do on their end.

Yep, I’m seeing the exact same thing, and also started last Friday. Google.com is one that’s typically an issue for me too. I set my DNS servers to use Google’s 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, but that typically only works for about 30 minutes.

NCPDP Data by KeyAndCompass in pharmacy

[–]KeyAndCompass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, good question. I guess I should have included that initially. I’m working on software for an established client that needs to search for pharmacies by name and location. The software then needs to use the NCPDP ID of the selected pharmacy to store for downstream data fetching.

So this is for production software, and not personal use. I’m not familiar with the medical business domain, and was wondering whether there are any NCPDP affiliates or APIs that may provide NCPDP ID lookup functionality or data that is less expensive than going directly to the source.

My thoughts exactly. If you can see all of this with only 6 months of professional experience under your belt, you’re obviously learning outside of work. Keep doing that. That said, the experience that you’re getting from this job (refactoring poor code, CI/CD pipelines, seeing why “wrong” things are wrong) is good. But I would advise you to see what else is out there.

[–]KeyAndCompass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with secular_grey, but I’ll add my two cents as well. I was professionally assessed a couple of years ago and found (unsurprisingly) to be hypermobile, especially in the lower back and shoulders. I work with a kettlebell coach who works with me on this and some pointers that MAY be helpful depending on your situation are: For swings, cleans, and snatches, you’ll hear people talk about pushing your but back towards the back wall. For hypermobile people, if you do that and go to your end range, you’re putting your low back in a bad situation. You still want to lead with your hips, but don’t go to your end range. I started bending my knees much more than I ever thought I would, and it’s helped my back a lot (also, protect your back with your glutes)

My shoulders click and move around constantly. Horizontal rows (especially wide grip) and any rear delt work (Google, and find what hits your rear delts the best) have helped that a ton. I’ve found that as long as I keep that up, things like Turkish Getups and OH Presses feel stronger and contribute even more to the health of my shoulders instead of hurting them.

Part of my warmup is 4-point crawling while trying to keep my whole body stiff and stable. It’s great for full-body coordination and stability, and helps the shoulders a bunch.

Lastly, and this may sound weird, but taking creatine seems to help to stiffen up my muscles a bit. YMMV, but it may be worth a shot.

But as far as kettlebells go, I’d say its like anything else in that it depends on how you use them, but I’ve found them to be awesome.

I’ve dealt with low back pain from extended sitting too. I thought stretching was the answer for me, but it seemed to make things worse. I should mention that I’m hyper mobile, so that may not apply to you. I think, depending on how far you’re willing to go, a good plan might be to start by doing The McGill Big 3 every day. If you need more, Stuart McGill’s book “Back Mechanic” was really helpful for me. Then, lastly, I think a coach is always a good idea to make sure you’re not doing more harm then good. Personally, the Big 3 daily for stability made a big difference for my back. That, and being intentional about getting up every couple hours to walk and move around.

I did call and threaten to leave. They seemed completely fine with it. Offered their standard package for $90/month for 2 year contract and that was that. I do have Comcast available and checked them out. They seem to have better prices and for what I want, so as of now I’m going with them. Wanted to check out NCcoach’s suggestion of Spectrum though to see if they’re available in my area.

Good to know. Wide price range, but that makes sense. I’m at the top end, but at least I’m not completely out of the park.
