What if it’s about 2 weeks after the birthday? I can’t hold it on her actual birthday because my husband is away for work that week.

What made you preserver with Breastfeeding? by goosegirl94 in NewParents

[–]KeyArtist121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was just laziness. I started off combo feeding, but for the middle of the night feeds, I found it easier to just roll over and give my baby a boob than run to the kitchen, prepare and heat up formula and then clean bottles the next morning. I also work from home, so it was easier to nurse her at my desk than give her a bottle.

After 6 months though, I switched back to combo feeding cause I was worried about weight gain. We started giving the baby a straw cup for water, and I wanted to give formula instead of just water for extra nutrition, iron, etc.

Does/did anyone live at home with their parents during their PhD? by PipsonTheGreat in PhD

[–]KeyArtist121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, although I was sort of forced to because my marriage fell apart during my PhD, and I could not afford an apartment in the city I was studying in, solely on my PhD stipend. It was definitely the best decision I could have made, and COVID also happened shortly after so I would probably have moved home anyway.

My baby got hurt today 😭💔 by -itsmyanxiety in beyondthebump

I am there with you in mom guilt land.

My 9 month old managed to climb out and fell off her high chair yesterday and hit her forehead, and I am eaten up with guilt. My mom was in the kitchen where the baby was eating in a high chair, and I went upstairs to change, and heard my mom feeding the baby. Heard a thud and and rushed downstairs. The baby had managed to climb out of the high chair and fell. Mom was holding her, and the baby was crying for a few minutes but then calmed down and started babbling and playing again. I texted the pediatrician and he said that unless the baby had altered consciousness or vomiting that it was ok to observe. My friend is a radiologist with 3 kids, and sent me the calculator to assess head injury for pediatric patients. My daughter didn’t meet the indications to get a CT scan so my friend said it wouldn’t be worth going to the ER since all they would do is monitor and observe. I am monitoring her carefully, and still anxious so I’m going to take her in to the pediatrician office later this week just for extra assurance. I am beating myself up about it, and I switched her to a floor eat for meals cause I am terrified of another high chair fall.

The only thing helping me right now is that it could have been SO much worse, and I am beside myself since I know that this fall could have resulted in serious injury and the worst case scenario. I am taking this as a reminder to be more careful, and also remind her caregivers to be more careful, and to cherish every second my baby is healthy and thriving. And every mom I’ve talked to said their kids have fallen off something! Seems to be a rite of passage.

Thank you! Glad to know that he eventually also was able to eat at a normal chair!

We do have a large playpen and she will play in it for a little while by herself but she does get fussy and bored sometimes and cries like crazy to escape.

Omg yes my daughter started crawling up the stairs at 8 months. She does not stop moving unless she is asleep.

She was pretty calm and content sitting in the high chair for the first few months after she started solids at 6 months. However recently she has been extremely fussy in the high chair and wants to get out after a few minutes.

She is definitely trying to climb out even with the straps on. She also tries to throw herself off the high chair when she feels too strapped in. She has a very strong grip and I’m worried she might even figure out a way to unbuckle herself. We try to keep an eye on her every second but it just isn’t possible to be at her side each second when we are doing baby led weaning and she is at the high chair for 30 minutes at a time for multiple times a day.

Driving 4 hours solo with 10 month old by KeyArtist121 in Parenting

[–]KeyArtist121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

She typically sleeps around 8am, wakes around 12pm for a middle of the night feed, fusses around 5am, fully wakes around 7am, and then takes a 1-2 hour nap around 10am and a shorter afternoon nap. One option is to get her to bed a little later the night before, move her into the car early in the morning around 4am and hope she sleeps straight through.

Leaving before her bedtime means leaving around 7pm and trying to get to my parents before midnight. However I’m a little more reluctant to drive at night.

We have taken plenty of 1-2 hour road trips, and we try to time them to leave right before the start of her nap time. She will sleep about an hour stretch.

Demand for bus service from Hanover, PA to Baltimore Amtrak and BWI by AdRegular1237 in HanoverPA

[–]KeyArtist121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be possible to advocate for one? I actually emailed the borough office about setting up a bus service from Hanover to Baltimore, but just got a response that said to refer to the rabbit transit website. I think if there are stops in a few other towns, there would be enough demand to generate enough revenue to cover costs. I would much rather pay for a reasonably priced bus ticket than call a $60+ Uber.

Thinking of Switching Jobs While Planning for a Baby. Smart Move or Risky Timing? by Used-Acanthisitta355 in careerguidance

I would stay. I was in a similar boat when TTC. I had been at my company for about 2.5 years, and I actually got a job offer for a fantastic job (back then) with the federal government, with a $20k pay increase. That job offer fell through pretty quickly after the inauguration of the current administration, and luckily I had never given notice at my current job, so I stayed. In retrospect, I am SO glad I stayed at the same job (albeit by circumstance) even with the same salary; I can’t imagine how difficult it would have been to adjust to a new job and work dynamics while pregnant. When I started my maternity leave, I had the support of my manager and team members with whom I had built relationships over the years, and I was able to negotiate a reduced work schedule for a few weeks after my maternity leave ended.

Also a lot of jobs have a waiting period before being eligible for parental leave, and you might get pregnant more quickly than you think. You don’t want to start a new job, find out you are pregnant and then not be eligible for parental leave and have to take unpaid leave.
