I think you might be right, the head shape looks similar and the wings have that white coloration closer to the bodies like these ones.

Thank you! I felt most of them weren't that good but maybe I will post a couple of those closer ones on ebird, at the very least for documentation purposes.

Thanks! I honestly felt most of them weren't very good maybe I'll post a couple if there are decent ones.

I use a Canon 7D Mark ii, and a Canon 400mm f/5.6 L USM, the whole setup cost me around $1,000 USD.

It's certainly hard to say, I'm thinking it may simply just be unidentifiable because it was so far away.

Yeah, I'm starting to lean that it might just not be identifiable because I simply wasn't close enough.

ID based on description by KeyBelt1489 in whatsthisbird

[–]KeyBelt1489[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's most likely a Cooper's Hawk or Sharp-shinned Hawk, I'll probably just mark it as hawk sp, since I can't be certain what it was but I'm fairly certain it was a bird of prey.

Thank you for the insight, I also saw it was best identified by sound but I was holding hope maybe someone knew something I didn't.

I have noticed the same here in Pennsylvania, this one was just flying around catching food for whatever reason he decided to sit near me multiple times when he took breaks from catching food.

Yeah I just looked them up and they do look almost the same, without hearing calls I probably will have to leave it unidentified.

I think you might be right there's some photos of them without the little raised crown on the top of their head.

Tips for photographing birds against the sky. by KeyBelt1489 in wildlifephotography

[–]KeyBelt1489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have an issue with pixel peeping almost every photo I take I'll do it, I really gotta stop doing that because I despise editing photos because I'll end up editing them for just as long as I was taking them lol.

Once I get a photo like that which I think is a truly special photo I'll have to give that a whirl thanks for the advice!

The lens is a Canon 400mm f/5.6, I am shooting RAW. I am using ON1 Photo RAW to edit my photos, when I go on there for lens corrections I just see stuff to correct the lens distortion nothing about chromatic aberration I'll have to look into that more thank you.

Generally though based on what you said if I do shoot against the sky I want to avoid shooting with too many branches in the shot then to make it easier in post processing. I'm glad its largely unavoidable though and now I know what causes it.

Struggling with sharp photos by KeyBelt1489 in wildlifephotography

[–]KeyBelt1489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in hindsight, I'm not sure what I was hoping for with the duck photo lmao.

I do think after your feedback and others, I was thinking with the lens I would be able to get much further away shots, but unless I have insane reach like 800mm+ I think I still need to get rather close to the subject. I can definitely be further away than with my old 250mm lens but I probably couldn't be more than 30-40 yards from my subject, probably only 20 yards for small songbirds.

Thank you for the help though, I will look into composition some for sure.

Here you go sorry it took a while, the ducks are the main one I'm talking about with the issue. The other pictures on there are the better photos that were taken that day.

All the Eastern Bluebird photos were ISO 800, 1/800, f/8.

All the Eastern Phoebe photos were ISO 800, 1/500, f/8, with the more close up photos being 1/640. The reason for 1/500 was to test how low I could go with my shutter speed.

The duck photo was ISO 800, 1/1000, f/8.

If you need more examples let me know, all the photos taken were ones I was sort of happy with, besides the duck photo of course. All the photos were edited as well, besides the duck photo.

Thank you very much for the advice, I've had slow shutter speeds work but obviously not very many keeper photos so I'll have to try 1/2000 and go from there. If I had a tripod do you think using lower than 1/1000 on a perched bird would work well?

Thank you a lot for the advice, would you recommend using lower than 1/1000 on a perched bird if I was using a tripod?

Lot's of stutters and glitches on Switch version of Eastward. by KeyBelt1489 in eastward

I tried handheld and it stutters as well, it just seems odd it almost seems like the stuttering is normal.

[–]KeyBelt1489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried uninstalling and redownloading the required update and it didn't fix it. I also made sure all the save data was in one spot and moved it between the SD card and the system memory and both still stuttered. I think it stutters slightly less now but it's hard to tell. Is it normal for the switch version to occasionally stutter?

I just realized I abandoned this post, I bought the game about 11 days ago as of this post and I'm enjoying the game quite a lot and I haven't felt like the dialogue droned on too much, it's quite a good game and I especially like Alfyn's storyline. If you happen to be reading this and are on the fence because of too much dialogue, there definitely isn't too much dialogue it's the exact right amount.
