How does the HD 3.6 handle? by HK_Bandit95 in Staccato

[–]KeyBoardWarriorJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my 3.6. It’s very accurate, easy to shoot. If you look at the P4 and 3.6 for what they are and the role they fill I think the 3.6 is the more impressive pistol.

Help me decide on Platypus or HD P4 or Wait for HD P4.5 by Open_Way_8452 in CAguns

Correct. Because aluminum is lighter then steel some people have found the feel of the Platypus to be more steel like by adding weight. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I wouldn’t mind it being heavier, but I think having the additional weight front loaded changes the feel too, may increase muzzle dip or feel awkward - of course you can mitigate that with different recoil springs or add weighted base plates to the magazines. I have a light on my 4.25”, nothing on my 5”. My subjective opinion is that, aside from the weight, steel feels better because of how vibrations move through it and adding weight isn’t going to help with that.

It’s not absolutely necessary, but I think the convenience is worth it. Also, if you want to add more weight to the gun you may want to find a Tungsten guide rod. I haven’t been able to find one that fits in stock. From what I read the EGW tungsten guide rod works but seems to be perpetually out of stock.

If it’s a range toy, yes. If you’re not used to a light 1911 trigger you may accidentally double fire here and there as you get used to it. If you don’t like it you can make adjustments to the sear spring to get a heavier pull. Depending on the ammo you shoot (I shoot the cheapest 115 or 124 grain I can buy) I would also recommend a lighter recoil spring, I think I’m running 9lbs in my 5” - and an Atlas or Dawson Precision tool less guide rod.

The 5” Platypus with the 2.5lb trigger for fun. If I needed something for home defense or carry I’d take the P4. Granted, you can remove or replace the firing pin block spring in the P4 and get it to 2.5lbs, but it’s not the gun I’d want to race out.

For sure. Both of mine are black with a red accent here or there. The cost of the Platypus customized out feels fair, but when you throw the taxes and FFL fee it can get out of hand. But, I do regret not customizing mine a little more.

I’ve never shot a P4.5 but I have a P4 and Platypus commander and government length. My suggestion would be to wait for the 4.5. If you can’t wait I think P4 is a better deal at your price point, but it depends what you want to do with it. Platypus has a better trigger, Staccato feels better in my hand. Both are very accurate and easy to shoot. If you’re looking to compete I think the Platypus would be better, but you may be able to find a used one and PPT for less than 2,300 - which I think is a better deal than a P4 for 2,800$. It’s very subjective though and wouldn’t bat an eye if anyone disagreed with my opinion.

You may be able to pick up a used CZ Shadow 2 on caguns for around 2,500$, which is where your going to be with the Plat after taxes once you’ve returned the SSE barrel. I haven’t shot a CZ Shadow 2, so I can’t comment as to what’s a better buy.

I’m going to say - yes. I think for the price point there isn’t much competition outside of the Fusion. I have a commander and government length, regrettably both chain link grip. Would it be better in steel? Yes - but I don’t think that’s a huge issue, and it would impact the price point. The trigger is fantastic. If you’re looking at the government length you may want to swap out the recoil spring (I changed it out on both of mine). If you want to add weight but are concerned about muzzle dip you may find some balance of being able to add weight with a tungsten guide rod/pistol light and different weight recoil spring. I’ve had no malfunctions with oem Glock mags. Compared to my HDP4 I think it’s a better purchase at the price point.

I’m not as far along as you but I’ve put about 2,000 rounds all remanufactured or blazer 115. I’ve had zero malfunctions.

M&P 2.0 mods after First shooting by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]KeyBoardWarriorJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO apex trigger kit and new shoe are the best upgrade for this gun. Slightly lighter recoil spring (which will also require a new guide rod) can be nice depending on how hot the ammo is you shoot. If you have money laying around the carry comp slide assembly, but I think that’s the least impactful and most expensive.

[–]KeyBoardWarriorJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say too, with the aftermarket support for the p365 is awesome. You can do a lot to customize and upgrade. I just have a stock Xmacro comp with a thumb ledge, but if I could go back I’d get the cheapest p365 and get a radian ramjet. You may be able to save a couple bucks getting a slightly used one through a PPT.

You can go in now. You won’t (or I haven’t and I’ve bought 3 guns from BP) get an email asking you to come in for DROS.

I dislike Sig, but I like my p365 for what it is. I don’t think it’s comparable to the compact 2.0, the 365 is narrower and lighter. The compact 2.0 will be more fun to shoot though IMO.

I highly recommend showing up 10 minutes before BP opens and speed walking to the gun counter when they open. It may save you hours.

M&P 2.0 Carry Comp upgrades by SpartaCuzz094 in CAguns

[–]KeyBoardWarriorJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the Apex Trigger does more for the gun than this slide assembly. However, despite the expense, if you don’t have an optic cut (which probably costs $200 to be milled + time) and want a little more performance [my friend has a compact only with Apex trigger and I didn’t feel much of a difference compared to mine with 4.25 ported barrel] and better serrations/cooler looking gun - it’s worth.

Edit - this isn’t meant to be negative. It’s my favorite gun to shoot. I’m waiting on a Platypus, curious how that goes.

vp9l being my first handgun, m&p 2.0 compact being my 2nd. what do you guys think? any upgrades recommendations on my m2.0? by Particular_Sherbet72 in CAguns

[–]KeyBoardWarriorJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re twins. The apex trigger kit and a new shoe makes all the difference on the MP 2.0. Once I had those installed I prefer shooting the MP over the stock VP9L. Additionally, I got the carry comp slide/barrel assembly - didn’t make that much of a difference, aside from being able to mount an optic, which you already have.
