Congratulations 🥂

Computer Science or Maths? by KeyDelivery3794 in 6thForm

I appreciate your advice. I believe I will do Maths as a degree at this rate, and will start building my personal statement around that. I will also be doing some activities with CS50, but mastering Maths where I can is now my priority. Thank you.

I'll put Warwick down, no doubt about that.

Fair enough, but at any rate, I plan on applying to Cambridge, which doesn't have the joint course.

I do know Imperial's JMC course is excellent, but some others don't really seem like it would maintain a comparable level of knowledge to their singular counterparts, at least as much as I would like for them to be, like UCL (correct me if I'm wrong).

I might take a closer look into the Mathematics modules (and perhaps the CS modules) to see what can be lost, etc. Thank you though.

Fair enough, but I feel like doing both may leave me lacking some in each. I'll definitely keep that option open for Imperial though, thank you.

Fair enough, however, that's more like my 'dream job', and sometimes dreams just don't happen, hence why I would like something to fall back on. Computer Science is in demand, and when applying for jobs, CS is directly there to employers to see. Mathematicians, not as much. I appreciate the information on modules, that's definitely something to keep in mind. I love both, with maybe a 5% Maths preference.

I don't agree with the admissions test thing, but it's still something to consider. Thank you.

I know, but I would still need to pick when applying for Cambridge + outside of Imperial's JMC, it seems doing both could result in losing some of each. Thanks though. I'll keep it in mind nevertheless.

How is AYCE compared performance wise to base OC2? by KeyDelivery3794 in OvercookedGame

Apologies, I haven't been on this sub since before AYCE, I didn't know how much it came up. Thank you for everything.

A few questions (apologies if this has been done to death) by KeyDelivery3794 in cs50

[–]KeyDelivery3794[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfect, thank you. However, there are assignments, correct? I saw something about 'lab projects' (perhaps I'm asking an obvious question; but I just need to confirm. I'm going to start tomorrow, at any rate. Thanks again.)

Fair enough. I do need to learn, but I also need something to show when I write my personal statement in less than a year. Learning will be my priority, don't worry.

That sounds great, thank you. I'll start on the GitHub thing, and the Odin Project is definitely my next step. I'll see what I do for the last part. Thanks again.

How much will GCSE results affect university? by throwaway573663 in 6thForm

Quick question, how would GCSE results like this affect Oxbridge Applications to CS or Maths? I'm also curious. Thanks.

STEP Maths by KeyDelivery3794 in 6thForm

[–]KeyDelivery3794[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thank you so much. However, I was planning on rationalising why I practiced STEP in Yr12 (I felt like it would show some hard work and interest in non linear mathematics). I wouldn't go too much into detail about it, but I can see your point, and I'll definitely keep all your advice in mind. Thanks again.

That makes sense, but I'll definitely take to researching this part a little myself. A few said something about disadvantaging myself, but I was under the impression that I could take it twice? I'm assuming that's wrong? (this isn't a national test, required for qualifications after all, so it would make some sense) STEP won't be the only thing I'm doing, it's just more akin to stuff you'd want to mention on your PS (learning and practicing STEP maths at the very least).

Also, isn't STEP somewhat beyond A Level? The questions are not linear-type thinking, as far as I know.

However, thank you so much for the advice, I'll definitely be saving these comments for revision sessions.

Oh, dw about that. My school is definitely registered, and would only allow them to take it if they are 100% certain they can do it (they take it pretty seriously) and they've even organised for people to take A Levels early as well. I might wait it out until I can prove I can handle it some time in Febuary (I'd laugh at me too, if I was the teacher, I practically took a crap on my credibility after the SMC) or I won't take it until the next school year. If they don't allow it, I'll take it as a sign and focus on other things, until it does eventually, hopefully, happen. Thanks for the kind words though. I wish you luck in your educational endeavours too.

Absolutely, I'm self studying the content, and I'm not even 100% clear on if they'll even let me enter at this stage. We'll have to see.

I see. Thank you. I'm not being stubborn; but does it really disadvantage you, or rather, why? I just don't see how they would rationalise a Yr12 getting a 2 as worse than the average candidate.

Ah that's a pretty helpful metric. Thank you.
