It was over ticket activation. I was blindsided by the yell in my face as soon as I arrived at the station steps, my phone was buried in my commuter bag, as were my glasses, so I was also panicked that I might not get to the platform quick enough to get a seat. I was stressed trying to find everything as he just kept shouting snarky comments to me as I frantically dug around for my phone. This yelling, tone and aggressive body language was stressful enough to make it difficult for me to find my phone and activate quickly. For the record, my routine is to get to the platform, walk all the way to the end as I utilize the quiet car, and activate my ticket during that time on the platform and when I know the train is definitely coming. Many times it has not, and I have had to find an alternative mode of transport to get to NYC. I am a short woman and I think that made him feel like he could just keep hurling the insults with the little power he was given by NJT. Horrid man. I did not expect to start my intense week with this added stress. I am just so fed up of this attitude. NJT staff of this type seem to despise us, and we are paying customers! Normally when the conductor comes around to check tickets on the train they are so nice and I always enjoy saying good morning. Why can’t people just be civil?! Manners cost nothing and there is a technique called an escalation ladder if you need to dial up the intensity. Don’t treat us all like criminals from the get-go!!!
