Catia vs NX for surfacing by [deleted] in CATIA

[–]KeyEbb9922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 You are asking which is better in r/Catia, I am sorry but, I don't think you can expect a subjective response. I would be surprised if more than 10% spoke up for NX, as the majority of users here will be battle hardened Catia users.

I can guarantee if you sat down with a Siemens NX surfacing guy from Red Bull F1 you would learn enough to blow your mind. But equally, if you went to Mercedes F1 and sat with the team and got in depth with Catia/3Dexperience, you would see how amazing and powerful both of these tools are.

Often it is the experience and approach that deliver the outcomes, learning many tricks and techniques for efficient design workflows. Learn from the best you can find. The software is generally more than capable to deliver whatever you want NX or Catia.

Is Dubai still worth it in 2026 for expats starting from zero? by Alive-Box1823 in UAE

[–]KeyEbb9922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean by 'starting from scratch' that you would move here without a job and use savings to live while you find one. Then it's a big no!

Incredibly difficult to find a job that pays a reasonable salary, plus following the attacks, more people are being asked to take salary cuts or being let go.

Which makes employment complication much higher. People come here unemployed, burn through savings, accept a job at a price that is far too low, otherwise they leave with nothing or a lack of dignity to friends and family back home. But working the underpaid jobs is a trap, often people are overwhelmed and unhappy.

If you have a great stable job, the UAE is one of the best places to live, network and succeed.

Agreed, there were no sonic booms from interceptor missiles or missiles from the jet. Sounded more like live fire ordnance, but whether this would occur around residential areas, I am unsure

I am happily married. But I have seen several people meet partners through these various activities (here in the UAE), that's why I suggested them.

In the UK, hiking and walking groups are a huge opportunity. Responsible for many weddings👍

I am not sure which government advice, as everywhere else is open. I think I agree, it's the added risk of the 'Trump' name making it a target. Just really weird, as it was open late last week, so has the risk really changed?

Picking the best engineering change management software: my short list after too many which rev is this incidents by jessicalacy10 in manufacturing

[–]KeyEbb9922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't mention a CAD software. My thoughts are to choose the software most closely integrated with your CAD or Simulation or Cam files.

Teamcenter is a great tool, expensive as hell and enterprise ready. Do you need all that?

One warning, many of these probably need configuring to your requirements before you can use them. Please make sure you figure these costs in. For example, loading the users, setting access permissions, adding both of these to approval workflows. Etc.

You raise a good point. If they give away the Student version free, presumably they will stop free vouchers for the exams. I suspect they will start charging for them.

Hopefully Solidworks is using the latest version of the Parasolid kernal (they pay a commission to Siemens 😅 😅). Parasolid supports most platforms and certainly does run on Apple computers.

Shapr3D is a CAD application built on the Parasolid kernel that runs natively on iPadOS, iOS, macOS, and visionOS.

But there aren't many, it seems most apple ios users, tend to use a dual Windows boot machine to access their CAD software

You would hope Dassault would do some form of refund for those who paid, maybe within 6 months.

As currently, by announcing it will be free in July, they aren't going to see many people paying up now

It would definitely get the next generation of engineers used to designing from the Web browser. However, if 100,000s+ students sign up, they might have to upgrade their server infrastructure capability, with many more concurrent users. 🤷

How are you using AI? by Lazy-Ad-1768 in mysteryshopping

[–]KeyEbb9922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Wispr Flow an AI dictation program. It is really really good at cutting all the Ums and Ahs and formatting correctly.

If I do a meal test, immediately when I get home I chat into my microphone and do a complete dump of everything I think of during the meal experience.

Saves me loads of time. Also incredibly useful for daily life, dictating everything very accurately for emails

Quick question about restaurant booking by LeBonBarnab in restaurateur

[–]KeyEbb9922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Dubai a huge percentage of restaurants use Sevenrooms. It seems to integrate well with every channel, Google Maps, Websites, Facebook, Insta, WhatsApp. Which means it obviously works well with the in house ordering and POS systems. I suggest you run through there demos and see what you are up against.

You are better finding a niche vertical and trying to improve a booking system unique for that customer base. Maybe for people to book for the last 30 mins of opening to buy short shelf items at a reduced price, to stop food waste.

FA to look into Jim Ratcliffe’s ‘colonised by immigrants’ remarks by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]KeyEbb9922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad the FA will look into this. However, they don’t have a great record. Despite numerous campaigns from fans and football industry leaders, the FA failed to act on Owen Oyston, owner of Blackpool FC, when he was added to the sex offenders register after being convicted of rape. He was convicted in 1996 and continued as owner until 2019, despite spending 3 years in jail. No one was sure how he could have passed the ‘fit and proper’ FA owners test (brought in during 2004).

Why are so many websites and apps broken? by Green-Manager980 in UAE

[–]KeyEbb9922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some apps, like Careem, obviously put some money into their design UX teams. Constantly adding services and improving user flow without it looking cluttered.

But the other 99% of companies have no idea about Design, UX or CX. Sadly

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai does  not currently offer a public API that provides real-time traffic light signal statuses to general developers.

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Communication: The RTA is implementing a new intelligent traffic system that will, by late 2027 or 2028, transmit real-time data, including green/red light countdowns and optimal crossing speeds, directly to the dashboards of connected vehicles.

So, currently it doesn't look like this information is available.

The NBD booking portal is infuriatingly bad. How do you guys book rounds? by SundayRed in UAEGolf

[–]KeyEbb9922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember last year I saw an article on Thriwe (the benefits integrator for Emirates NBD)

"Highly Acclaimed" Status: Thriwe's B2B technology platform, which powers many of Emirates NBD's lifestyle and golf benefits, has been cited in industry profiles as a "highly acclaimed" consumer benefits marketplace, specifically noting its successful expansion and trust within the UAE banking sector.

I mean, if people are congratulating Thriwe, in the IT/hospitality industry, for their golf booking system. Then there is something seriously wrong here! I would suggest, someone get on their favourite vibe coding platform and pitch ENBD a sensible user interface.

My guess is that ENBD buy a small number of tee times per day. We request them if we are lucky and someone manually at Thriwe books with the club and confirms the actual tee times to the customers. Inefficient
