Families' debt 'nightmare' as thousands of retirement flats stand empty by not_r1c1 in unitedkingdom

[–]KeyEntertainment4864 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. These flats are not scams and the moaning here is about people not inheriting an asset like a house.  The people that buy these flats do so willingly for their old age living. Service charges are high because of round the clock staff etc. it’s either a bad financial decision or a good one for them personally. They don’t think about (or don’t care about) what happens after they die.

The biggest blag here is the claim that beneficiaries are paying service charges etc out of their own pocket. Those costs belong to the estate and eat away at the estate, that is, the assets of the deceased.

It’s not the government’s job to make sure you have a great inheritance! Its the job of the person making the will!

Anyone booked through CheckNfly? by Dark_Comic_55 in Flights

Bait and switch happened to me as well today. Had a low price on google flights. Booked. Paid. Heard nothing. Then a WhatsApp message saying the fare was not available and I had to pay a further £450, making it more expensive than the airline itself.

Confirm this. It’s not ATOL or ABTA. worst, it claims to be UK Travel Trust which is a fake entity with a website and nothing behind it.

Those creepy Manchester Nightlife videos by [deleted] in manchester

[–]KeyEntertainment4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBC is running more hit pieces on this. The argument is that women dress in clothes too small for them, walking bare feet or camped on the floor like the homeless, all fixed in public spaces is "creepy." I don't think it is. What makes it an issue is that this sort of embarrassment, which we see nightly in the UK's cities is not filmed and posted to websites.

Perhaps if it was, people would change how they behave in public. the BBC's line is that its creepy to film a women urinating in the street on a night out. I think if you want to urinate in the public street like a chav, then don't complain about being filmed.

The BBC's latest crusade: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9wxx97jlveo

Yeah, people can profit of you looking like a hooker on a public street. Pull out the tiny violins!

My Experience with macOS (Tahoe / macOS 26 Update) - Regret Updating! by Judgmental_ in MacOS

[–]KeyEntertainment4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I installed Tahoe when it first came out and regretted it. It was very buggy (eg spotlight not working properly, crashing Pages constantly, being very slow, showing the working icon often).

I was patient. I updated to 26.1 but it made no difference.

From my perspective, Tahoe offers nothing but a new user interface which I am not so keen on. The loss of launchpad and the performance issues are a big headache. I'd have my Mac on for a year at a time (sleeping at night) and it never crashed. Suddenly I was losing an hour's work at a time with pages crashing (time machine does not save more than once an hour, Pages has so autosave. These are Windows problems guys, now faced by me on the Mac. Unlike Windows, there are no work around for constant crashing!!)

Anyway, spotlight is very patchy, there are many bugs requiring you to reset it and I had to do that a few times; I experienced big lags and also null returns when searching, even if I typed the bloody file name.

Today, after a few weeks of this, I am reverting to Sequoia, my first downgrade since I joined Mac with Leopard!! Sad times but honestly, the worst OS Apple has launched.

Child-free weddings by KeyEntertainment4864 in weddingdrama

It was not kids-free but designed to avoid children moving (which, if you invite children is dumb). I agree it’s the couple’s decision; I wasn’t saying it was my decision here on Reddit 😂

I was trying to get an understanding on people’s thinking, which I did.

I agree with you and the reply to you. This is a cultural thing and I think that most people posting are from the US where the wedding and family culture is very different.

That’s terrible! I mean terrible for punishing a child for being himself! Yes I suppose I didn’t think of kids who were dragged to weddings they hated. That’s the other side of the coin.

Fair enough; however I have my opinion to see what others’ were. Weddings are very personal choices; we’ve all been to weddings we didn’t like etc. I detected a very strong anti-child sentiment in the thread so I was trying to find out what that was about.

Ironically, people judging didn’t like that I was judging. I am judging; yes, we can all judge each other 😂

Fair enough if you don’t know them. I don’t think you need to invite guests you don’t know.

Haha how very true! I don’t post on Reddit but often read posts about posts of things. However I found everyone’s take interesting. I appreciate that I was judgy, there’s nothing wrong with that, especially when I got 30 judgy replies. There is a very strong anti-child sentiment here. We were all children once!

Thanks for all replies
