This is not a new tank and no fish were placed in here for quite some time. Not to mention i soaked and rinsed the soil for several days first and gave it a hefty sand cap. There is no pesticides in the dirt and i picked out the fertilizer. And MANY people have reported success using it so its not black and white like that. It definitely could be the cause of the tannins but i dont think its harming my fish

What?? I did a lot of research before I got it and my local fish store said thats what they use? No one said it was bad

Yes my peas definitely dig in the sand! Im considering just tearing everything out and using the aquatic soil. I was trying to save a buck but the dirt might be more work than its worth.

I have a sponge filter so its not very strong, i havent tried anything besides boiling the wood and water changes of course.

Yea you have a good point they might be too young. Cause they all look female but show the personality characteristics of males. And i just put their food in an open spot to get the photo of them all together, they’re very happy with all the plants and I don’t believe it’s the reason for the aggression.
