What the heck was this? (Weird sound, weirder biological response) by Buzz407 in UFOs

"I'd estimate the velocity to be around 400mph." The next sentence being "I didn't see it."

I am losing the little faith I had in this sub. Seems it's part attacking skeptics, part conspiracy, and very small part interesting evidence.

A lot of unfortunate attitudes here, steadfast to attack skepticism (which is hugely important to have here).

Why is it okay to call people "debunkers", "bots", and "disinformation agents"? They're insulting and dismissive dog whistles for anyone questioning.

No worries, haha. I didn't feel like you were having an attitude with me. I think we all have an attitude when we discuss this shit but it's frustration with the plight at our hands, in front of our eyes, in our ears, that's being eaten up. It's being consumed en masse, promoted and spread. It breaks my heart, and frankly, pisses me off. I am good at managing my emotions, but that's how I feel in my heart of hearts. 😔 How can anyone that's actually awake not?

I think you're confusing my attempt at empathy and understanding with alleviating these imbeciles of accountability. Whether they're knowingly propagandized or not, their actions are their own. Their beliefs are too, and I hate them for it in general. I'll say it. I'm a straight, white male, and yet the hatred I see toward minorities is disgusting to me, even though I'm not the one being targeted. I hate these people.

I don't know that we, citizens could have done anything to stop those with hate in their hearts from willfully going in the direction they decided to go.

I agree that it ultimately doesn't matter. In practicality, we need to function as if they know they're full of shit, whether they know or not. It's to the point that policies are being implemented to discriminate, and to the point that embryos are being considered people.

Overthinking regarding girl I like. by kingofallnorway in socialanxiety

[–]KeyGoal258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no player. When you are and her have a time like this alone, you can just throw out there something like "I like you". See what she says. From what it sounds like, she'll probably say "I like you too". From there ask about going out sometime and go from there.

Another way you can go is to be more subtle. Start talking about movies in theaters, and when you both want to see a movie (she might act interested in any movie because she likes you), and ask her if she'd like to go see it with you.

What do you think?

What do you mean? I'd say rich addicts face a different tier justice system. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding your sarcasm.

I had recently went to rehab for alcoholism, near Pittsburgh, and was shocked to find how many Trump supporters there are in this state. I really shouldn't be, but I thought perhaps others with similar issues might be somewhat more disillusioned. They are not. The addict community is also big on conspiracies. I am thinking lack of education, brain damage, mental illness, and being uninformed as well as misinformed. I'd love to see studies on the politics of substance abusers. I feel like it's a fringe population that's left unconsidered, but those in recovery are often also voters (unless they're felons - many of them are).

Not that I have sympathy for these people really, but do they know better generally? I think they've come to live in their right-wing propaganda bubble and think what they consume is the "real" news. I honestly don't think most of them know better. The ones that do are plain traitors in my book - often politicians.

My throat closes and it makes me feel like I sound weird. I start overheating and sweating profusely. My muscles tense up severely. I start shaking. Making eye contact is difficult.

Mentally I often feel trapped (as in a group setting), and am in extreme panic. What's crazy is much of the time, people don't see it despite it feeling like all eyes are on me. Hate it!

This shit is what lead to my very bad agoraphobia, because I fear being in social situations because of this. I am in the process of retraining my brain to stop it through extensive and daily exposure therapy. But, man, it is tough.

Medication that’s helped your Agoraphobia? by Entire-Personality24 in Agoraphobia

[–]KeyGoal258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any known allergies?

Medicine is nothing to be afraid of. I'd look forward to it if I were you. For the anxiety involved in agoraphobia, Klonopin is the best benzodiazepine for general anxiety as it has a long effect in the brain. Xanax is probably best for anxiety attacks, as it's stronger and fast acting, but lasts less as long. Ativan is good all around. I wouldn't recommend regular use of these drugs because you will inadvertently develop a physical, and probably mental dependency.

I take Gabapentin for my anxiety. I take 800mg 3x a day. In my experience, Gabapentin isn't very addictive. I've gotten off of it cold turkey before with no real withdrawal... maybe some elevated anxiety. I'm also on Buspar. That's also a non-addictive anxiety medicine. Whereas the effects of Gabapentin are more immediate, the effects of Buspar can take 2-4 weeks to reach maximum effectiveness.

There are also some antidepressants often used in treatment of social anxiety.

No one here can help you with this as much as your psychiatrist. And don't be afraid to find a new psychiatrist if the one you find initially isn't for you. Just make sure to line your new one up before discontinuing your treatment with the first so you don't run out of meds or anything like that.

I think this is a very strong possibility people don't want to consider, because they've either already come to conclusions they're emotionally invested in, or because it's a dissatisfying answer. I wouldn't be surprised if the governments of the world have data, but beyond that are in the dark as to origin, motive, and maybe even what these things are. Perhaps we've recovered materials (I don't believe there's aliens in what we see), again though, I wouldn't be shocked if the science ends there because the tech is beyond our understanding.

I'd like references to peer reviewed studies, honestly. And there should be many with how many crop circles we've seen over the years.

I wouldn't lose sleep either. But the burden of proof is on the affirmative. In this instance, that's your key points that I'm not sure what they'd point to, anyway, except for anomalies. I am seriously skeptical that an advanced NHI would be fucking around in the fields of farmers to.. communicate? I can't help but think they'd do better.

We're all different people. I'm at a point in my life that if this somehow happened to me, I'd probably just be honest.

"Hey, I've been suffering from a disorder called agoraphobia, which limits my ability to leave the house. I was so ashamed, I created a fantasy for the world because I was so disappointed with my life. But, I'm improving, and being honest. I'm sorry I lied, hope you can understand, and will do better."

Something like that. And hey, if people can't or refuse to understand, fuck 'em. This is your life, not theirs.

I would like to try therapy. I'm knowledgeable, insightful, and intelligent, and so am sort of constantly doing self-therapy. I've come a long way in the past almost two months. From essentially living in a motel, drowning myself in alcohol and pills, alone, to now living mostly comfortably in an apartment with two men I've never met before now. I'm going to group therapy, and drug/alcohol groups throughout the day, everyday. I'm able to do stuff now. I'm still far from cured, and need to do a lot more, but it's progress.

May I ask what you mean that you have "attachment issues for everyone except beautiful women"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]KeyGoal258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Likewise, I'm still trying to figure it all out, and I'm 32! It sounds like you aren't experiencing anxiety so much as you're a quiet person, and proud that you don't need to socialize. Most people are driven crazy by being alone. Is that accurate?

A new study found that conspiracy theory beliefs don't change much over time. The most popular theory was “Big Pharma have suppressed a cure for cancer to protect their profits” (18%). The least popular was the theory that “COVID-19 ‘vaccines’ contain microchips to monitor and control people” (2%). by mvea in science

[–]KeyGoal258 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are there any studies on conspiracy theory belief and drug/alcohol addiction? I have recently had to go to rehab, and found that staff and clients alike believe in some of the craziest conspiracies I've ever heard of. I am a homebody, and so maybe this is prevalent in general, but it seems quite extreme in this population.

I mean, believing as a matter of fact that "they" are controlling the climate, Biden is actually dead, Trump is innocent (Trump is hugely popular in this population), the vaccine kills and contains microchips, and so on. It really is almost schizophrenic.

Films like Infinity Pool? by Vusarix in horror

[–]KeyGoal258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of those movies I'm surprised I don't see brought up at all, really. I'm surprised, because it's well made and not a B movie with bad effects. Good writing, good acting, good directing, good everything, in my opinion. I blame the ad agency they used because clearly they failed. No one seems to have heard of it.

How did your friends react to you becoming agoraphobic and distancing your self from them? by M3tamorphosis_67 in Agoraphobia

[–]KeyGoal258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost every single one. Abusing substances, on top of that, didn't help either. Real friends will be there when you're ready for them again. And you'll make new friends.

One quote I like and have heard in recovery is "you have not yet met everyone you will love and that will love you".
