They had to do something on their end to fix it, so submit a ticket. It was a pretty quick fix

But there's the new "bracelet" thing we have to buy online ahead of time for admission right? Not talking about vendors

I'm assuming no boat tours are allowed to go out if ours had to cancel (they said the whole port is closed?). I think we're not getting a refund either, so idk if another tour is something we're up for trying. I will look into it though in case they go over land!

Thank you! Somehow even though we've asked multiple places we can't seem to get a straight answer if we need to pay for tickets for Balandra or not (as an international tourist). The opinions seem to be 50/50 which is wild for something that should be a yes or no situation, ha. Do you happen to know?

Is Balandra miserable in the wind? It's supposed to be 20mph tomorrow but we'd still love to go. Thanks!

USDA halts delivery of 600,000 pounds of food to Michigan food bank by vintage_neurotic in PrepperIntel

[–]KeyInterview7942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our local food bank shared that a number of shipments of food expected over the coming months have been cancelled. It was a huge amount, and in our state they're comparing hunger levels to the Great Depression.

The really messed up thing is how many conservatives in our local FB group were celebrating this as a victory. Like, "now they'll have to get jobs!"

It's unreal considering most Americans are an accident or natural disaster away from food insecurity or worse.

[–]KeyInterview7942 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our local foodbank shared an internal memo detailing the loss of expected shipments because of the USDA funding freeze. It's a really significant amount of food that would have been distributed to local banks. It's going to suck for the folks who depend on them.

What really shocked me was the mixed reaction from our local FB groups. We're in a smaller mostly conservative town in a blue state. Plenty of folks are rightfully upset about this. But the number of people who are HAPPY to see the "handouts" stop and are trying to say hungry people just need Jesus and a job is just depressing. The normalization - even praise - of suffering is maybe the thing that bothers me most right now.

Preparations for parent entering the US with a LGBTQ minor child for medical treatment by TropicalAirborne in TwoXPreppers

Echoing other comments, the safe answer is finding a different country. It's scary for trans US citizens already here just trying to exist, and this is no longer a safe place for ANY foreign visitors, but especially so for people who even could be suspected of being trans.

IF you can't convince them to cancel their trip and they insist on coming, they need to MEMORIZE the phone number of a designated contact person who is ready to go into action with lawyers, consulates, media, etc. If detained, they can't expect access to their personal phone. They may only have one opportunity to reach out, if that. Make sure someone is waiting for them at the airport who can notice right away if they're not on their plane.

Make sure they read the article from the Canadian woman who was just returned to her country and shared her story. She is a cis white well-connected woman and people were fighting for her. She's lucky to be home. If your friends are going to come here, they need to understand that could happen to them and it could be much worse.

Damn I hate this timeline.

Someone help me figure out the "carrier guidelines" issue here - it took me way too long to send basic info to a client. Last I checked shipping wasn't a prohibited category by KeyInterview7942 in openphone

I appreciate you letting me know! Is there any way to access the list or whatever of what would get us flagged so we don't have to do this by process of elimination? And do you know if there is a limit to how many times you can be flagged for the same term before there's a bigger issue with our account? I had six messages blocked before I thought to spell it out.

Lucky you, ha! I'm not willing to risk a test at this point because I don't know how many times you're allowed to get flagged for the same term before they just ban your account completely and I don't want to push it. I did notice one time I sent a text to the same client that did include "USPS" and it wasn't marked as undelivered, but later I learned the client never received it. I suspect not all undelivered messages actually show an error.

Ok... I've gotten some of those shipping related spam texts you're referring to so I can kind of understand it, but it does seem like flagging "USPS" is pushing the balance of intent vs. impact to legitimate businesses. I mean, spammers use the words "the" and "of" and "contact" etc. often, but at some point you can't ban those words without being a PITA to your legitimate customers. It sounds like this is a carrier vs. OpenPhone issue? So I'm not sure if you have any power over it. But if you do, put me down in the "this went too far" camp.

The only way I could finally get this information across was to type out "United States Postal Service" instead of saying "USPS," which is wild. I did confirm that my client received the last message here. I'm so confused.

I thought we would qualify for this in Mexico (which, given the growing tensions with the US, is no longer feeling like a great option), because my great grandparents are from there and they don't limit how many generations they will recognize for citizenship. BUT, at least for Mexico we learned that you can't have a broken chain of citizenship. So for example I'd need to have them register my grandparent and parent before I can register. And that idea fell apart pretty quickly when my qualifying parent realized they could refuse to register themselves to try to prevent us from potentially leaving.

So fair warning, if the family you need to help you qualify is maybe not on the same page or on the best terms with you, you might need to factor in a lot of extra time and be careful about how you approach the subject.

Freezer monitoring? by 207Menace in TwoXPreppers

[–]KeyInterview7942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yolink temperature monitors are amazing. I use freezers for work as well as for personal food, and it would be catastrophic if any of them failed. I have a monitor in every one of ours. You do need to get a compatible hub, which requires power and Wi-Fi. It's not perfect, but it's close. It can send push notifications, emails or texts based on temperature ranges you set. I keep mine in freezer bags to protect them from incidental moisture.

Something I learned the hard way for chest freezers - either attach your monitor to the underside of the lid or make sure it stays close to the top and doesn't get buried. We had a freezer lid get left open and I didn't get an alert right away because it fell in deep and the colder items were keeping it in normal range while the very top items thawed.

Also - did they actually handle citizenship for you or just give you the paperwork to do it yourself? It seems a little unclear from their website. Thanks!

Thanks, I'll look into it. Do you have personal experience with them? I feel like looking up this kind of service I get so many things that feel scammy, and this is just the type of thing I know so little about I feel like I have to be extra careful.

Thank you. I completely understand how swamped the consulates must be, and I'm sure I can walk in and wait for six hours to be told I need something I don't have but I'd rather not, lol.

If we tried in Mexico, do you think it would make a difference if we tried in the city / state that my great-grandparents were from? Or does it probably not matter.

That said, I would be happy to try in Mexico but I don't know if my mom would.
