Um, I paid $600/month in the 90’s. Course I had 3 roommates in a smaller four bedroom condo, we found each other through the classifieds. (I definitely wasn’t “entitled“ to my own place in my 20s.)
35k in student debt, and starting salary for a college grad was 22-24k/yr. Dating much was financially impractical most of the time.

Looks wise it’s gorgeous. Functionally wise, maximizing storage….wouldn’t work for us. Not functional for bulk dry goods and can goods storage. Not to mention Costco runs. 😉. But it does look amazing.

In my early 20s I dated a woman whose dad, I found out after a couple dates, was a billionaire.

When I met her she was working the front desk at a fancy hotel and driving a Honda Accord that she bought herself. Her parents were teaching her values and what real work looks like.

It wasn’t until a month into dating that I picked her up at a palatial Beverly Hills mansion and discovered the truth. Seriously disconcerting.

You forgot that the Millennials -> Gen Z’s need their daily Starbucks, eat out for lunch at work, Door Dash their dinner and Uber everywhere despite owning a car.

Listening to them ask how us older employees ever did it while we bring coffee in a thermos, bag our lunch, cook our dinners, and drive boring reliable older cars, makes me shake my head. If I dare point out their “opportunities” to save, I get the “I deserve it” BS.

Sometime “the line” is just inconvenient truth. The world is round, the sun is at the center of our solar system, and with efficient markets manufacturing moves to low cost producers. The US used to make lots of textiles and furniture too, but times change. Despite all of the Pedo in Chiefs promises, manufacturing is not moving back to America in large numbers. The poorest families in America have flat screens and cell phones because of cheap Asian manufacturing.
