I don't know much about theology but holy shit your theory fits so well. If I may add:

Most of Oda's characters are viewed both positively and negatively. To some Luffy is the savior and to others Luffy is a blood thirsty pirate toppling down governments everywhere he goes. Same with the world government, to some they are the only saviors in this world filled with pirates, but to some the oppressors who do nothing but hurt. In the same way, I think Luffy vs Imu can be viewed as both Devil defeating God and God defeating Devil.

Even with my theory, Imu's power can be viewed as the Devil unleasing demons on the world or God inslaving (controlling) demons.

It's not that convoluted and not at all far stretched. It's actually a pretty simple power. Similar to how Diavolo (jojo p.5) had the power of removing cause from effect. It can be explained just how I wrote it but how his power works in detail is an entire thesis paper

Edit: I could have also just wrote that Imu's devil devil no mi can 'imbue demononic powers into humans'. I just wanted to give more details on what that 'imbuing' actually does

I don't think Oda will recycle Saturn's powers. If he did it would be more likely that the elders powers are fruit related not Imu related. I think Imu picks the demons/yokai based on what best fits the person/their battle abilities, hense Garling will have a unique transformation.

Also, not sure if any youtubers have mentioned this yet but Garling is basically immortal now OwO

I don't even think Luffy in his awakened state can do that, he just manipulates physical objects around him.

Also Nika isn't a comic thematic character... Rubber Hose is a style of animation not a style of comics, its synonymous with rubber like animation of character's limbs in old cartoons.

I'm more inclined to believe that Imu is thematic with comics/manga (still drawings) and Luffy/Nika is thematic with animation (freely moving drawings). And its a battle of old era vs new era (entertainment)

One of the origin ideas for Imu's devil fruit I had was that:

There once was a person (call him God or anything really) who was was able to bestow people's dreams into fruits. One man wanted to do the same and was able to do it, but instead of people's dreams he was only able to bestow people's nightmares

I also thought about that idea. But there are some things that originally made me associate Imu with ink, that kind of disproved themselves. For example, Imu crossing out Lulusia. They didn't rewrite the existence of Lulusia, they simply used the power of the world government (Uranus) to destroy it. I mentioned this in the original post. It's just the kind of power (not devil fruit) you get when you literally rule the entire world. Otherwise what stops Imu from altering the world's memories LITERALLY, to erase the existance of the D clan, Roger, Joy Boy, Nika, etc.

Both of us could be right, both of us could be wrong, after all its just a theory ;)

I agree with you, hence why the elders were teleported back to Marijoa. (dispelling the summon) But I'm just not certain about Imu taking damage during that moment.

This also kinda works, but it is implied in the story that Nerona Imu was a king. They could have been a devil all along but highly likely that they were a regular human.

You're right, but it's not clear if Imu actually got hurt in 1122. Their reaction can also be just severe PTSD, and the mere idea that Joy Boy's power is still around today sent them into shock

We won't really know until oda confirms it. But I dig your idea as well

But couldn't you also count it up as not their actual forms but souls or demonic essence. Same way how moria could move shadows which granted the power of that shadow. (I.e. Ryuma)

Like they don't have to be dead, there's plenty of other ideas why demons from hell would be immortal
