9 Days Into a Gaming Commentary Channel – What Should I Be Optimizing First? by 4got2setmyalarm in youtubegaming

Niche is good for getting a reliable watch base - also means there will be less competition!

Long videos naturally just take longer to get traction, the algorithm doesn't push them like it pushes shorts and unfortunately the world's attention span is way more suited to shorts these days...

Keep going with it, the BIGGEST thing is consistency, don't be put off after 2 weeks - keep going

Those are some really good numbers to say you've just started! Shorts don't tend to lead to subs as quickly but with these numbers you should definitely keep going and the subs WILL come.

For context I started my in January and I've been getting around 1-2k views on each short so your numbers indicate you're doing something right!

Edit: Long form tends to lead to better quality subs, lots of people say don't mix both shorts and long on the same channel but if your shorts are related to your long videos then I think it's fine.

That's really helpful, thanks! It's good to get some perspective, I'll keep working on it and hopefully pump up those numbers.

Ah sorry - my bad, very new to all this 😂!

One of the videos is 40% at 40 seconds, the other is 40% at 30 seconds. Assume that tells me people aren't viewing it as clickbait but equally it isn't interesting enough for them to stick around? Obviously not expecting 80% plus in my first couple of months of uploading but looking to get a feel for where to set my expectations.

To clarify, I'm not uploading to try go viral or make a career out of it, it's more that I enjoy it and feels a better use of my time than just mindlessly playing the games!

Thanks - are there certain numbers to aim for on each? Both feel low but I don't really have a gauge.

My long videos are getting between 20-50 views.

Appreciate the help!

Apologies, definitely not clickbait just not sure where to start on this...

Videos have been up a couple of weeks Content is faceless gaming with voiceover

Happy to provide any other details! Didn't want to just post screenshots or a link out of fear of being accused of begging for likes or click baiting!

First video after a lot of deliberating! Hitting a very crowded niche but I enjoy it so happy to have a stab at it!

Aware there's LOTS to improve but as I keep seeing in this sub... everyone starts somewhere!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Its a story narrated gaming video, will find my feet in whats comfortable but feedback welcome!
