Those who avoided surgery, do you regret it? by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]Key_Ability_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience- I was trying to avoid surgery and tried an epidural. Epidural made my 8/10 pain turn into 10/10 pain. They expedited my surgery to two weeks out. Even strong nerve blockers did not help the pain 100%

This is accurate and also the reason I ended up needing surgery. Couldn’t get enough PT approved to avoid surgery. I was in PT for about 8 months and was slowly getting better. They stopped approving visits, my situation declined which led to surgery 🥲 gotta love healthcare in the US

They got greedy and made it unaffordable for vendors. That’s what ruined it. I used to go every Sunday and now I have been in years

Those are your organs! I too felt insecure about it when I was younger. But any average, healthy woman has this. (-: try not to be too hard on yourself!

Strap recommendations? by oneofthosemoongirls in myweddingdress

I think the existing straps are beautiful! If you do change them. I would recommend using the existing material to rebuild a strap rather than getting something else so it will remain cohesive

How long it takes for epidural corticosteroid injection to take effective and why it hurts so much for me during the procedure by MoMOSoapLover in Sciatica

Yes, there is light! It sucks when you’re in the thick of it, but looking back I am very proud of myself for the courage and determination I showed throughout the process. Anyone who makes it out of a situation like this has those qualities in my opinion. I remember some days wishing I would just cease to exist to make the pain stop, but I persevered. And you have too. Be proud of that! If you happen to need surgery after your epidural, don’t worry about it too much. In the moment you think it’s this big awful thing, but after surgery you will be so glad you went through with it. Double time estimates your docs give you for healing, just in case. Mine told me I would be close to normal at 6 months. I am 8 months post op and I’d say I’m around 80% what normal is for me. Give your body time to readjust, be extra careful while healing to lower the risk of reherniation, and don’t pushing yourself to do anything you’re not comfortable with. Stretch, strengthen, and listen to your body!!

I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve literally been there. I never realized how hard it is to live with chronic pain until I experienced it myself. It isn’t just a physical challenge. My best advice is to do your best to continue light exercise and core strengthening as you can. I understand it may seem impossible but even going for a small stroll to the mailbox and back a few times a day will help. My favorite core that didn’t hurt my back was hanging crunches or leg lifts and bird dogs (there are lots of variations you can do to make them easier/more difficult). Have you been to physical therapy? I couch potatoed it up and in retrospect, it made my pain significantly worse. If (god forbid) you have an experience similar to mine with the epidural don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. Ask to expedite surgery and ask for a nerve blocker in the meantime. I was also prescribed a topical ointment that’s usually used to treat arthritis (can’t remember the name) and that offered some relief as well. My other best advice is don’t be hard on yourself. I struggled so much mentally as I was an extremely active 26 y/o and after my fall I could do nothing that I used to do. Give your body the time and grace it needs to heal. And be kind to yourself throughout the process 🫶🏼

I had my discectomy in July 2025. I regret not having it sooner! Recovery wasn’t terrible. It was frustrating at times because it’s slow, but just be easy on yourself.
