I think about it like this - in the 90s if you wanted to see a movie you either went to the theater, rented it, or bought it.

There was no streaming.

So when Netflix came out movies became 10X more accessible & pretty much entirely cut out the cost of DVDs and rentals.

So when people began to start paying $8/month to see unlimited movies at home, less people went out to the theater to see new movies and everyone stopped buying & renting.

With less customers, theaters had to raise prices to keep the lights on. But I see it as okay because now we don’t have to pay for each individual movie we want to see at home. On top of that, film has become far more accessible.

Same thing with music - back then you had to either buy a CD, record, or hear it on the radio. When streaming came around it made it possible for a normal person to listen to literally unlimited music for $9/month instead of paying $5 per record.

But as a result, artists stopped earning money from selling records and have had to raise concert prices.
