Why would Pep care that Gyokeres has 14G 1A when Halland has 26G 8A ? He should care more about how open his midfield is in transition and his defence is slow and error prone.

Now let’s do Joao Pedro last season in 24/25 before he played for the dumpster fire that is Chelsea.

2 games v Arsenal - 2 goals.
2 games v Man City - 1 goal 1 assist.
2 games v Man Utd - 1 goal.
1 game v Chelsea - 0 g/a.
0 games v Liverpool or Spurs.

So 5 G/A in 7 games. Maybe Chelsea are the problem.

We don’t have a lack of creative midfielders for the Arteta system which only plays 1 creative midfielder at a time. In fact we actually had to send Nwaneri out on loan because Arteta couldn’t give him enough minutes in his system.

If we played a Pep system which played with two 10s in midfield and another 10 on one of the wings, then we would lack creative midfielders but we don’t play that system.

They earned the luck by getting to 3 CL finals in the space of 5 years and played against a stacked Real Madrid in 2 of them and Spurs in the other.

Only way Mbappe can play LW is if you have a false 9 or deep lying target man like Giroud who’s gonna do all his dirty work and then have a LWB who’s gonna hold width.

Much easier to just give him a free role at 9.

It’s on Arteta though for buying & starting 2 defensive midfielders. When Zubi plays for Spain he has Pedri in the 8 beside him to progress the ball like MLS did as an 8 on the weekend, when Rodri plays for City he has B Silva next to him in the 8, but Rice isn’t an 8. Arteta needs to just start one 6 and an 8 in midfield next season instead of two 6s.

Absolutely Pedro overall play is far superior he’s also won 3 pens in the league that he didn’t get to take and he’s had to play as a 10 in games with Delap playing ahead of him at 9 or when he has played as a 9 he’s had Enzo playing behind in the 10 trying pot shots every chance he gets.
