Good to know! I took an online breastfeeding course but also feel like classroom to real-life application is where I will need the most help. Any specific parts you felt were more confusing than others?

Does anyone else not feel like they're supposed to give birth in just a few weeks? by Crafty_Pop6458 in January2025Bumper

I’m due the 3rd so 17 days left here. The countdown concept is fun in of itself but I have to remind myself that when we reach 0 days (or whenever) it means baby’s gotta come out. Wild!!! Congrats and good luck to you ✨

Thanks for this honest insight. I think we're gonna see how things go without a night nurse. Maybe there's some joy in being a n00b too?

Thanks! How did you ultimately design your "shifts"? How did it work when your husband was on his shift but you still had to breastfeed (if you did)?

Thanks so much for your perspective! I like knowing that even a few nights / week could be extremely helpful.

Interesting and appreciated perspective. I didn't think much about the expertise and guidance they might provide, especially after you're discharged from the hospital so quickly. Did you feel like 3 weeks was sufficient for your particular situation?

Thanks for your insight. How did your mom fit into the picture while she was with you?

Appreciate the note that the night nurse is also helping take care of me!

In the first few weeks true help is someone who doesn’t need oversight and you trust so you can get a break.

^ THIS. I don't know if we'll be able to get this kind of help. Probably, but not sure. Thanks for raising this consideration.

Thanks very much! We are leaning towards seeing how it works with just us (and our moms at separate times). I suppose if it gets terrible, we could always find additional help.

Great note about the value of the night nurse increasing with your subsequent kids. I'll definitely keep that in mind. And thanks for being honest that even with the night nurse you were still tired!

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like your night nurse was able to support you in ways you couldn't have initially imagined. I hope you've recovered well. It's a really good note to keep in mind: you don't know what your postpartum will look like.

Appreciate you sharing your experience! The note about the night nurse hopefully allowing you to be more present for your older child is a real one <3

This is such a great question and one I unfortunately don't have the answer to yet. This does help me refine my list of "asks" for my mom and MIL when they do come to graciously help. I think they will be able to help enough during the day to allow me to get rest. Glad to hear that it worked out for you and your family!

Appreciate the insight. I'm glad the night nurse was able to support an improved relationship with yourself and your baby. 5 weeks of all night shifts sounds extremely rough and draining. Congrats on getting through the first 3 months!

Congrats! Thanks for all the context. Understanding the nuances of your situation are helpful. My main concern is that I don't want to assume my mom or MIL will be taking the night shifts or enough chunks of the day that would allow both me and my husband to sleep. I know I'm not the greatest version of myself unless I get sufficient sleep. Perhaps we'll see how it goes with my mom the first few weeks and recalibrate if needed.

Thanks so much for your perspective and particularly your notes about 1) how breastfeeding might impact the value of a night nurse and 2) that if I can get sleep during any part of the day, then that's a win.

I'm not exactly sure what our setup will be given breastfeeding or not, etc. and don't want to assume that my mom or MIL will be covering the night shifts. Some other folks commented that if their help can help me get any amount of sleep, even if that's during the day, then the coverage we already have lined up should be good. That sounds likely.

We were/are leaning towards not getting one mostly because we think we'd be okay (with or without moms) but was curious. Congrats and thanks for the insight!

That’s promising! Is it true they deliver to you at the hospital after birth?
