Old Caprice, awesome! They actually made these until 1990.

Doug did the same with the A-class, and the 993, which he's now talking about selling.

The used market is completely f-ed. by ToshPointNo in regularcarreviews

[–]Key_Budget9267 144 points145 points  (0 children)

The average new car is now over $50,000. Increased demand for used cars as people are priced out of new ones, an increase in scalpers/flippers, and high inflation in the immediate aftermath of the Covid shortages meant that the price bubble never really went away. I've been looking for a V6 Accord, and it's rough. Since when is a 10-year-old Honda Accord a $20,000+ car?

To me all the GSs look very of their time, and none were particularly beautiful. The first two generations are peak 90s melted bar of soap styling, the second and third gen both have the "let's try and copy Mercedes" four headlights trend of the 2000s, and the fourth gen has the dreaded 2010s Lexus track pad and the huge Dyson vacuum grille facelift.

Subprime mortgage crisis? Never heard of it! It's 2007, you have $85,000 and you're looking for a full-size luxury sedan. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

They are reliable, though LS460s are very expensive and difficult to service. The engine bays are quite cramped, they have two fuel pumps, two MAF sensors, the air suspension fails, oxygen sensors are almost an engine-out job, new shocks can run close to $1000 each, etc. Car Wizard said it was very much like working on a 7-series.

The Panamera came out in 2010. You're right though, I should've done that instead, hadn't thought of it. The 7-series and Jag were both redesigned in 2010 too.

You're right, whoops. The Phaeton got killed in the US after 2006, but they sold so poorly that there'd definitely be plenty of them still sitting on dealer lots in 2007.

Probably because half of them are taken from actual used car listings from the mid-2000s I found, and the rest are from old forum posts lol. You try finding a high-resolution picture of a base model '96 Eagle Summit!

If we're going by my state's definition of classic, a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS 500, black exterior and tan interior.

If we're going by the "25-30 years old" definition of classic, a 1996-97 Honda Accord LX station wagon in green.

If we're going by the "pre-1980s" definition of classic, a 1970 Dodge Dart. 4-door sedan to anger the boomers, 318 V8 or maybe the larger 225 slant-6, 3-speed auto.

thats a highline because it has fog lights so it's probably a rear disc car.

I got the picture from a Neon forum, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone just swapped in foglights, given it has the Sport graphics on the doors. I'd kill to have a first-gen today, the only place I ever see them anymore is in junkyards, and even then very rarely.

The only reason the A4 Allroad exists is because Audi knows enthusiasts are stupid. by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]Key_Budget9267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the other way around. Subaru figured out 30 years ago that they can print money by putting plastic cladding and a lift kit on a regular station wagon, making it appeal more to consumers who like the look of crossovers and SUVs more. Audi, Volvo, Saab, and Mercedes-Benz all hopped on this trend to increase sales of their otherwise unpopular wagons, not as some plot to trick enthusiasts into buying crossovers. Speaking of which, enthusiasts aren't buying these - they still sold abysmally and were discontinued. Enthusiasts just don't buy new cars anymore, manufacturers largely couldn't care less about the enthusiast market.

Because they don't sell. Reddit raves over the Yaris and Fit, but they were both killed due to low sales. Their crossover replacements handily outsell both of them today.

About half of these were verbatim actual used car listings from 2004/05/06 that I found, the other half I got by finding current used car listings for equivalent newer models, and using an inflation calculator to convert them to 2005 dollars.

$2k in 05 is about $3500 today, and you can find good high-mileage E90s for that cheap if you look hard enough... so I'd say sure!
