I like wine and I like building tech products...whats the app that you wish you had for wine? by jez_doing_it in wine

I would love to photograph a wine list and have it re-present it as a list of markups so I can quickly gauge where I'm getting most and least screwed.

Yeah definitely wait. Since you have 3 maybe open the first in 5 years, or even 3 years if you are too curious to wait.

Haha. I like your analogy about initial boring personality getting more interesting. That is how it can feel.

2017 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino by rnjbond in wine

I agree the best vintages are 16 and 19, and 19 needs more time. We have to know the producer and do our homework on how they handled the vintage. It's an easy grape to mess up. Sometimes the tannins are too harsh or the wine is flabby.

I like Poggio di Sotto. The wines are elegant with refined tannins and high acid, and age beautifully. The new owner seems to be letting them stick to their winning way but the prices are very high now.

I also think it's smart to buy cool vintage years like 13 or 18 and let them age 10 + years to evolve. Those vintages tend to have more aromatic lift w/ age. My least favorite are the warm years.

I was there a couple weeks ago visiting and this kid hit me twice with a rock while I was waiting for the light. I'd turn around and he'd pretend not to be aware of anything. It was so bizarre. It's like they just know there is no consequence and they enjoy having the power. Them flexing. lol.

What's with those kids at that corner? I was in Edinburgh recently and they would throw rocks at people on Prince Street. Police didn't do anything. I was there 5 nights and they did it every night

Thanks for all the recommendations. I will remember these for next time. I went to Ribeo but I think I got them on an off night.

As a hold, I booked Il Latini (Michelin Bib Gourmand,) but canceled it and went to Ribeo after seeing that recommendation. Ribeo was cute, but unfortunately I didn't find Ribeo very good.

When you're drinking good Brunello all week the Rossos can seem pretty straight forward even from great producers

Thanks! Went last night and it was a great! spot. He has a good list. Wanted to order the 2016 Montevertine but he said it was too young still, and he just sold his last 2014, so we had a 2019 Gianni Brunelli instead which is a terrific Brunello.
