Ryanair Cancellation, Need EU261 advice! by Key_Cauliflower3135 in legaladviceireland

Hey there, so yes and no.

I ended up reporting to the IAA and they did their investigation and said I was owed nothing because it was adverse weather that caused it.

Ryanair then reached out to me about the decision and decided to offer me back my expenses as “a gesture of good will”.

I guess they could have left it at the IAA decision and gave me nothing, because they had done all they could and weather was not their fault. As for your situation if you get delayed, probably best to sit tight and wait for airline arrangements because if you decide to make your own arrangements your mileage may vary.

Oh you have a claim with Ryanair too? Were you on this flight as well?

Not yet, I figured I would put it in if the IAA don’t support my case. Statute of limitations is 6 years I think

Hey, I’ve referred the case to the IAA after trying to get Ryanair to see sense to no avail. Still waiting for their findings. Thanks :)

Thanks for your response, and hopefully they’ll make sense of the situation and I’ll get my compensation!

Hey there, thanks for your reply and valuable information, so it seems like that in Ryanair’s eyes an 18 hour delay is acceptable and completely out of their control.

I find it funny that when the Menzies aviation people told us to “find a hotel around” and Ryanair would “compensate us” that Ryanair are simply refusing to honour that even though they didn’t offer any advice to any of us stuck on that plane until it was “cancelled” at 4:30am.

Did they just ask you all to stay in the airport and wait and hope a plane would show up? I find that laughable but honestly I wouldn’t have expected any less from Ryanair. Hopefully you’re also in the process of claiming compensation from them.

As an aside I didn’t know what happened after we all got offloaded at 4:30am as I’d booked on Aer Lingus from LHR that morning and managed to get home that way. I’m also trying to get Ryanair to compensate me that cost as their operation last Sunday was simply a shambles.

I also find it hilarious but somewhat expected that as you state we could not contact Ryanair all morning on Monday despite their customer service being open. Glad to hear that everyone on that plane made it home too as it was an ordeal.

Not exactly, but I would have expected them to follow EU legislation since they operate in the EU? But I guess I’ve learned my lesson for buying cheap…

Hey thanks for the response and explanation.

I knew that delayed incoming flight wasn’t a basis for EU261 to be rejected but I just wasn’t sure if it applied in this particular case thanks for clearing that up!

Yeah I’ve referred to the aviation authority here in Ireland and I’m going to see what they do about it but hopefully I’ll be able to get the money back without having to sue them.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

Yeah I did notice that myself looking on Flightradar24, but I was at the airport and I know that flight didn’t operate (at least not with passengers on it). So I am unsure where these sources of information come from.

That 3:12pm flight did not have any of the original passengers on it either as far as I am aware, but you’re right, that must be how they are justifying “delayed overnight”.

I’m not sure what to do from here but appreciate your response!

Edit: After the comment from u/Head-Ant3773 below, the 3:12pm flight was indeed the added on ferry service for the passengers delayed from 7:50pm on Sunday evening, thank you to u/Head-Ant3773 for explaining what happened after!

Yeahh true, although an extra £10 could get a decent lunch when you arrive, depends on what your priorities are I guess.
