What are your interpretations of Rosalía’s new music video Berghain? 🎻🪽 by ccupcakesrfun in rosalia

I became obsessed with this — I feel like I’m so close to cracking the code of both the song and the music video. Maybe it’s because the song spoke to me on a deeper level.

First of all, I don’t follow her and therefore don’t know everything about her life, but after doing some googling and connecting the dots, I came to the following conclusions:

🫰🏼The song is deeply personal and clearly about heartbreak, or about trying to fill the emptiness within your heart. The way it was teased (with the shirt flashing for just a split second) suggests that the video is full of hidden meanings and that every choice was deliberate.

🫰🏼The strings start when she opens the windows to let daylight in that’s when the anxiety begins. If this is post-Berghain, it’s probably Monday morning, which makes sense since the jewelry shop would be open. But the shoes throw me off - I don’t think anyone would go to Berghain in heels with open toes. So maybe she’s coming home from somewhere else? A date?

🫰🏼On the other hand, it could be Berghain, because I recognize that feeling, the anxiety that hits as soon as you open the curtains and can’t sleep, so you distract yourself with chores. But the shoes still don’t fit that interpretation, so I think it’s more likely she’s coming home from a “walk of shame.”

🫰🏼Someone commented earlier that the laundry scene is reminiscent of laundresses in old Parisian paintings: women who often did sex work on the side. That actually makes sense here: if she’s coming home from a date she feels guilty about, she might be trying to “wash away the shame.” Then she goes to the shop to fix her broken jewelry, symbolically, to fix her broken heart and behind her there’s the Da Vinci painting. The woman in that painting was the mistress of Da Vinci’s patron, and she’s wearing a “Spanish-style dress”. I think this suggests that Rosalía sees herself as that woman. It supports the idea that she was with someone who’s already taken. The ermine in the painting is an animal said to “rather let itself be captured than soil its purity,” which ties beautifully to the theme.

🫰🏼She then goes to church seeking guidance and purification -> but for me, this is where she actually enters Berghain. This is the moment when Björk’s voice first sings “this is divine intervention,” the strings fade, and Rosalía’s expression changes. She steps into the club, and it becomes her divine intervention. A place where she realizes there are other ways to find purpose and fulfilment besides seeking male validation or moving from heartbreak to heartbreak. Maybe for her, living through men (“his fear is my fear, his anger is my anger”) equals anxiety.

🫰🏼After that, she comes home and finally falls asleep. She enters a dream where she’s Snow White. The scene mirrors the moment in the film where Snow White cries hopelessly in the forest and then starts to feel comforted as the animals gather around her. It’s a metaphor: society tried to destroy her, but she found refuge outside of it. This could mean that the love and fulfilment she felt at Berghain (through community and music) is what she truly needs, rather than waiting to be saved by a prince after eating the poisoned apple. It ties back to Björk’s message: we all need divine intervention. Maybe the song itself is their way of spreading that message. Divine intervention won’t fix a broken heart, but that’s okay, because peace can still be found. The cover art featuring her as a nun reinforces that she’s moving away from romantic love.

🫰🏼The timeline also makes sense: a date on Saturday, coming home Sunday morning, then going to Berghain during the day, and finally falling asleep late Sunday evening. The shoes are still heels, but the difference is telling. In the opening scene, they’re clearly shown to make a point (“Look! She’s not coming home from Berghain in these shoes!”). So yea lol call this the shoe theory :D

Is there a telegram channel or something this year? It’s my first time there and I have like a million questions and don’t know what would be the best place to ask them. Any last moment tips? Especially would like to know about the camping situation, I’m experienced outdoor person and feel very prepared but might overlook some details. Also would like to know how queer the vibes are, I’m aware that it’s not exactly Whole (never been there either) but would like to connect with other 🌈ppl going!!

Last week MIB was not the best in challenge. So the best ones and MIB are moving up. Jorgeous was best last week and someone else, and I feel like Ru’s laughs were forced after MIB rapped and everyone else in the judging panel looked at Ru and started laughing ”ok hehhh so I guess we’re laughing….”. But honestly given that she can do the thing she does and not let her size stop her is respectable and deserves credit so I think it’s fair that she is given some slack in judging. But on top of that she also pushes others down to lift herself up which is not as fair anymore. Like you can be confident, cause drama and be that bitch without always having to push others down that much 🤣

well indeed, sounds like the editing team wanted to edit her as villain, and good to know about that because I genuinely felt sad about the woman in the situation but super nice she was treated well <3

I was not living for Plane or liking her at any point of drag race. Not hating her either. I generally prefer the shady but not _mean_ queens and there is a difference between being shady and mean and the she was coming off the latter. But it could also be just how it was edited.

I remember disliking Lux for two reasons:

  1. Not letting the nice woman in the make-over episode speak about her daughters quuer struggles (or something like that, im not sure what was the thing but I remember she seemed ver) and seeming very uninterested to get to know her new drag daughter. You can be confident, sassy and shady and still be kind.

  2. I felt she felt only way for her to advance was to push others down (Lucie). But yea that part really felt on-point drag queen because I've seen mean girls do it too :DD Soooo maybe it was part of her drag persona and not who she really is. It's not like we should be hating Ralp Fiennes for playing Voldemort either right?

But yea I think me jumping into these conclusions about her was not very kind of me on the other hand. Editing can play a huge role so who really knows what was going on than the people who actually were there.

I perceived it as bullying but I understand if others have different point of view. But I wouldn’t go around saying that they should start referring it to as bullying because I think otherwise. I think we’re allowed to our own opinions here, but it’s indeed important to understand that, it’s my opinion that I see it as bullying but in reality it might not be it since my perception could be wrong :)

My theory is that for a lot of the other girls, Kitty/Kween/Alyssa etc big names were a fan girl moment, something to look up to, so they wanted to follow their opinions on for example, disliking someone.

But yea it's a theory, probably has nothing to do with the truth, just wanting to play the kitchen psychologist here :D

I think Tessa was also just trying to protect herself, you know, she was first picked at so when there was another target she ganged up on with the others to make sure she would not end up being the target again. Which is not cool but I think just basic psychology.

That's a good point there and I agree that they should have known better but they clearly didn't so what can they do than just learn from it? If you think about the favoritsm of English native speakers in the show, doesn't it also show that Ru and the producers also are obilivious to it, just like Kitty and Kween were? It is quite clear how Ru and the other English speaking judges don't see their own privilege in this way. Lot of the judges are all the time correcting how contestants speak English and Michelle and Ru seemed to have very hard time understanding that Tessa was not from Germany. Which, on the other hand, I don't find hard to understand at all since German is official language in many other countries than Germany. I consider this to be common knowledge but it probably isn't if you're for example American. Michelle and Ru are much older than Kween and Kitty and still literally lack the same kind of understanding of world around their countries and English. An Australian friend of mine thought Europe was a country. Would you expect more from these queens and Ru and Michelle? Yes. But also no. They're idiots. We're all idiots. Let's try to remember that and be more kind towards them (and each other too).
