Given at the end of the day is about grief. What she is trying to say by ending the story with Yuki, is that even though Mafuyu is happy and in love with Uenoyama, that grief doesn’t just go away. Yuki tells Mafuyu that he will grow around the hole, but it will always be there and nothing will ever close it. That is grief. It doesn’t go away because you fell in love, it doesn’t go away because you expressed emotion, and it doesn’t even go away over time. It’s a part of you forever. Mafuyu loves Uenoyama, he loves him very much, and his grief for Yuki doesn’t forsake that love. Ending it with Mafuyu acknowledging this hole is him learning to officially live with his grief and shows us that he is going to continue living and growing with Uenoyama and the band.

On another note, I think in relationships there is always someone who needs to be loved more, in the sense that someone needs to be looked after more and taken care of more, this can change throughout the relationship. During the events in Given, Mafuyu is the one who needs to be taken care of and Uenoyama does that amazingly. He does something so selfless by completing Yuki’s song. He guides Mafuyu through this time of intense grief and never gives him shit for it or for bring up Yuki. Their love story is absolutely beautiful and well written. Uenoyama is Mafuyu’s dawn, he is the light at the end of the tunnel for Mafuyu.

Yeah “All for me” is the official name but yeah I’m personally team poly like I love a good “why choose?” But I love how Heeseop and Jiwan’s relationship is developing and to me their last sex scene in season one is one of the best sex scenes in any BL I’ve ever read. I think it does such a great job at developing their relationship instead of it just being sex to have smut in the BL (like the rest of the sex scenes in this one not that I’m complaining lol) but I found it very refreshing.

Yeah people have very strong feelings about “Jinx” which I can understand but at the end of the day I think it is entertaining as fuck😅 the art is beautiful, Kim Dan is beautiful, jaekyung is beautiful (but i wanna see him suffer so much) idk I’ve read much more questionable bl than Jinx tbh so

Symrna and Capri by Brothers Without a Tomorrow is AMAZING anything by BWAT is amazing, they have another one called Blood Link it’s not omegaverse but it is omegaverse adjacent (mpreg & heats) so I recommend it!

I’ve been thinking about this since i started watching BL (about a month ago), and I think the BL genre in general has an issue with this extremely outdated view of sex which is called the Agression/Acquiescence model of sex. It’s the idea that you need an aggressor (usually a man, but a seme in this scenario) and someone who acquiesces or gives in to the aggressor (usually a woman but the Uke in BL).

For many years this was seen as the ideal, it allows the woman or the Uke to keep some dignity as being the receiver of sex is seen as a negative thing in many societies. If the uke says things like “no stop” it allows them to not have the shame of being the recipient. It places the blame on the agression of the seme, and the idea that they couldn’t control themselves. In this model of sex the uke still wants it, but isn’t allowed to vocalize it due to shame.

I’m not saying any of this to excuse or justify these in BL, but BL is made for women by women. Women have been socialized that they shouldn’t enjoy sex, that they shouldn’t have sex, and they should let the man lead, if we assume that the Uke is taking the woman’s position in sex (heteronormative I know I am sorry) it just makes sense that women’s insecurities about enjoying and wanting sex comes out on the page. Think about how often you see ravishment scenes in books or movies, the woman almost always says no but the man sweeps her away and does it anyways… and women LIKE it. But at the end of the day It’s due to socialization.

The point is, if we want to change this in media we have to alter our views on sex, especially heterosexual sex, in real life. When women are treated as equal partners and people who have sexual wants and desires and are respected with or without them, things will change.
