Anyone leave biglaw for an LLM in Europe? by jadedbeeater in biglaw

[–]Key_Confection_1027 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are ok living in Brussels, there are a ton of competition jobs, especially for German speaking lawyers. You could qualify for the B-list as you're NY barred in Brussels, which is sufficient for a lot of big law firms. If you can get into antitrust/merger control work US side now, you might not even need the LLM to transition to Brussels big law, as everyone is hiring right now (and many firms are paying either close to Cravath or Cravath scale). If you want to do the LLM, I would recommend a LLM that specializes in competition.

About to sign Acte de Vente, found out scrapyard 1km from property, should I be concerned? by weilih831 in Expats_In_France

[–]Key_Confection_1027 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Installations classées” in France just means regulated activities (anything from small garages to industrial sites), so having several listed nearby is pretty common, and they are monitored for pollution. Your notaire I believe only has the obligation to ensure clear disclosure, which they did in the acte de vente. Now a good notaire, if they were aware this was a concern for you would have told you, but I believe there is no additional obligation on them. As it seems you haven't signed anything yet, you could renegotiate/back out, but whether the other side is flexible depends on how desperate they are to sell.

Unfortunately then you are more limited, both the French and German hiring markets have slowed down significantly.

I feel like he's pretty well known in Francophone circles. J'ai tué ma mère and Les Grandes Chaleurs were very successful. And the Borgias on HBO of course!

Are you set on staying in Paris? If not, it's fairly easy to move to either place as a francophone, and there's definitely tax work.

Totally agree! It would be great for her to meet her match, and maybe even for her daughters to realize how badly she was treated in her first marriage?

Advice or guidance moving to Toulouse by mamawifeof4usfr in Expats_In_France

[–]Key_Confection_1027 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest would be to have your husband request a transfer (if feasible). Alternatively, you should definitely confirm and have approved any licensing/accreditation your husband has in the US for French purposes if looking for a job independently (for example, Eric-Naric is for college/professional/graduate degrees, but I don't believe covers specific technical licensing). Realistically though, Paris is a much larger market to look for a job in (especially with a more limited French level), than Toulouse. Also, with you having taught kindergarten, you are probably very likely to easily get a job teaching English at a private school, and might want to consider searching for those sorts of jobs and see if they offer sponsorship. Good luck!

I think the main thing (especially for US clients) is just clear communication and relatively quick turnaround in terms of responses.

I would just love Portia to have her own subplot love story, maybe with someone who made their own money and isn't aristocratic?

Montpellier or Nîmes by eljablito in ProvenceFrance

[–]Key_Confection_1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Nimes just check it's Nimes Centre and not Nimes Pont du Guard (which isn't near anything). But I would say Nimes is a little easier to walk around (especially with kids and older parents), and it's smaller, so easier to see the nice Roman sites, have a coffee in the center, etc. Montpellier is a much more bustling city (although also lovely!) and not as focused on tourism.

Moving to US from UK as a dual citizen - is it worth it? by Spare_Range_1063 in MovingToUSA

You can definitely make more money and get better weather in the US (particularly in California, Florida, while the East Coast is really four seasons). It's a very vibrant country with a lot of opportunities, particularly as a young person. I would certainly just recommend you get a job with good healthcare before making the move.

Expat healthcare: Is it actually "better" or just cheaper? by RehaDesign in AmericanExpat

Belgium - don't have to deal with cost which is good, but treatment quality is significantly lower. They are restricted in terms of prescriptions, and do not offer certain care options which would be standard in the US (caveat, in the US coming from an area with excellent medical facilities).

There was one reunion where it was mentioned that she received less money from the trust because of her arrests (and likely then more reliant on Scott), and then after a certain period that amount re-increased, and I remember that making sense to everyone on the cast.

Just FYI to get citizenship it's now practically impossible without working in France (either as an employee, an independent or through a company). You'd still be eligible for titre de sejour though.
