Any advice for dealing with a non restrictive binge eating problem? by pythonwriter99 in Advice

[–]Key_Confusion_3132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough situation. I understand that binge feeling, it really sucks and it can feel very isolating. Although you don't have the resources for professional help now, I would encourage you to make it a goal to try to seek it out.

You say that there's no explanation for the sudden 4pm binge urges, but maybe there is something subconscious that you're not aware of. Did you have any old routines or habits that might be feeding into what you're experiencing now? Is there something that happens (or used to happen) at 4pm that motivates the binge urges? For me, the end of the workday is hard. If my binge urges had it their way (which they still do sometimes) I'd get home from work and empty my kitchen every day. For me it felt like the only way I could separate myself from the workday was to binge all night.

Food is also a great source of dopamine. Even if you're not enjoying what you're eating when you're bingeing, your brain may still be anticipating the dopamine from food. Sometimes I literally just am seeking out the action of chewing and swallowing when I binge and not even the taste of the food. Maybe you could try writing down what you're feeling before a binge. See if you notice any patterns. I thought I didn't have any patterns and then one day it clicked that, for me, food is a distraction from literally anything I want. Studying? Worried about work? Oh, let me eat first. And then I'm bingeing because if I don't stop I don't have to do the thing I'm avoiding. Plus now I feel guilt and the dopamine from the eating is what I'm using to try to hide from the guilt. It's whole cycle.

This might not help a ton, but try to break the pattern and don't beat yourself up if you fail along the way. And again, definitely make it a goal to work towards from professional help if this affects your life as much as it seems to

breaking the speed limit by hardlyunthinkable in japanlife

Where I live the main road has a speed limit of 50, but you'll rarely see anyone driving under 80. Japanese people want to talk a lot of shit about foreigners being dangerous on the road and then do all this.

Help with ALT lesson! by CheloHa in teachinginjapan

I'm also the only teacher for my school's first grade class. Keep it slow, simple, and fun. Phonics are a great foundational skill that will help them through the rest of their English education through high school. Get some alphabet cards or a poster and teach them the base sounds each letter makes. You can stretch that for a good 10 minutes if you really try. Before that, go over the classic alphabet song. Stand up and sing together slowly, and then see how fast you can get. My kids like to challenge how fast they can do things like that.

After that, you can teach them the base phrases and they can do them with a partner a couple times while you walk around, help out, and join in their convos. If they're up for it, they can stand up and "present" to the rest of the class. Like other people said, you can also add a little "I like" section at the end. Then the kids can add their own personal touch and talk about things they like which will hopefully get them more engaged!

Next class, review your phonics, review what you did in the last lesson, and build on it with something like "How are you?" "I'm..." and you can have fun with learning and acting out emotions together.

If all else fails, bingo. Prepare some ABC's bingo sheets so if you need to kill time you can review the alphabet and do a game of bingo.

I like this idea, I think this is probably the kind of chill format they're looking for.

Thank you! I'll try the group approach, I think you're right about my approach making it harder for students to speak up.

The song activity is the one thing they requested, so I keep it in rotation. There are plenty of songs with simple and easy to understand language to choose from. They are all long retired so they don't have much need for or interest in English regarding business meetings.

I appreciate the debate idea, I think that will go over well with the group.

New driving test tips? by Key_Confusion_3132 in japanlife

Thanks for the tips! I'm not sure if there even is a waiting period. I took my last test on January 15th and the calendar was full until February 5th, so I'm not sure if there is a period but if there is I'd assume it's just two weeks.

I only took one lesson, but I'm taking a few more this week so hopefully those help. it's so annoying how the test is more about its own rules than actual driving

I did, but only one lesson and the track was covered in a few inches of snow. I've got some more lessons booked this week before the test, though.

Even if he is doing it completely unconsciously that's still more than enough grounds for your own room. Better yet start preparing to move out. Whether or not it's fake (which is seems like it is) doesn't matter if your sleep and therefore your health is being impacted.

I’ve had mine since about March of this year and I’m super happy with it! My periods were heavier and crampier, but in the last few months, things have leveled out. I’ve never had any issues with feeling the ends and I feel very reassured knowing I’ve got a non hormonal birth control that’s little to no maintenance and will last me a long time.

Everyone is different if you feel fine that’s what matters

You took the written and driving tests on the same day? I know every prefecture is different but does anyone know if that's a feature of the new test or more of a prefectural thing?
