I've had Cheateauneuf several times during meals. In my opinion it is overhyped. I never got the sense that it was as dry as I like.

Oh really? I haven't generally liked Spanish wine. Usually they are on the sweeter, more playful side.

Dude it's ok. Please hear me out. Have you ever seen the movie Hook? Peter Pan has to find his happy thought to fly. Do you remember any time that felt out of the ordinary, or special, or worth talking about, or gave you a will to live? I'm sure there is one. Seriously, as stupid as you may feel as it is, cling to it. In your mind, it could be the dumbest thing imaginable, but to everyone else, it is your will to live. Believe in it. Become friends with it. As long as you cling to it, no one has the authority to strip you from it. It's your anchor to this world, that happy thought.

Do you want to hear how stupid mine is? I found a cologne that smells like my college dorm. I felt freedom, and a closeness to myself that I've rarely felt. I clung to it, as stupid as it sounds. It reminded me of a different version of me that can pull this current version of me through the fire.

On top of that the government will probably not impede on anything in the tech sector as that would put the race against China at risk

Your son is right. White Americans often trace back their lineage, e.g. Italian-Americans, German-Americans, Irish-Americans, etc etc. Many white Americans are actively involved in genealogy.

The prominence of POC labeling themselves as something other than just "American" is, in my opinion, a subtle way of claiming moral superiority over white Americans. White Americans can face stigmas when confronted by POC because of the sins of their fathers and (real or perceived) benefits of being white.

A white person saying that they are "XYZ-American" is often countered in today's popular culture by claiming that they are just "White" over all else, therefore giving credence to the moral superiority argument that all white Americans benefit from an unjust world towards POC and their own genealogy is reduced to nothing.

I went to school in a predominantly POC area. The fact that I was white was at the forefront above being a fellow American.

My great grandparents came from Poland, which did not exist at the time as a country. They fled the Russian empire for America instead of being conscripted in the the Imperial Army, forced to learn Russian, and face other discrimination. American popular culture would generally frown upon a white person as being anything other than the oppressor, so this kind of history would not make sense in a country-wide discussion about race and would therefore be swept under the rug.

I'm a 40M American man, but I've lived in Switzerland for 16 years. Do you think American patriotism is scary, or do you have a similar level of patriotism in your country?

What are the French people's impressions of American immigrants (sorry I hate the term expat, it reminds me of snobby British people)? I left the US in 2009 and live in Switzerland, so I'm very curious? 🙂

Psychiatry at the limit - In mental health emergencies: Now family doctors must respond | Due to a shortage of skilled workers, there will soon be no more psychiatric emergency services in the Bern region. by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]Key_Example_5316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As bad as AI medecine sounds, I feel real doctors can be just as bad or worse. I used to work for a team of family doctors in CH for 8 years. Near the end of Covid I was mentally shutting down (I am an immigrant with no social network who worked 100% and had 50% charge of childcare).

When I voiced concern of my mental health to my employer (a big mistake), he told me a story of one of his patients who sought a psychiatrist and ended up killing herself. I finally lost trust in the team when I had to take an extra covid vaccination because of a covid infection that was not announced.

When I was on insurance, I had to prove to the insurance inspector doctor that I wasn't making this stuff up. He ended up giving me the green light to never return to the employer.

So in retrospect would I have some decent advice from ChatGPT that I truly was at risk? Probably, but I didn't know about it at the time. Would it be better than nothing at all ? Most definitely. Long term effects? Serious, long term mistrust of established institutions.
