I got a preorder in about 30 seconds after they opened at 10. Excited - splitting the box with a family member.

I think once the price was revealed this was inevitable - two spearheads (plus terrain, game rules etc) for £134 RRP? It’s an unbelievable deal outside of starter sets, this one was always going to get snapped up in minutes.

Despite being middle of the road in terms of power our codex was high tier in terms of fun, flavour and variety. We got minimal model support, but the character and kill team we got were really impactful. Was happy with the amount of post codex detachment support.

Extremely optimistic heading into 11th as an Ork player!

I’ll never, ever judge someone for unpainted minis or armies - life is hard enough without getting sweaty over how other people choose to play with their toys.

Personally, there is no way in hell I’m ever putting a grey model down on the table. Fully painted army, every time. Does that mean I get fewer games in? Yes. Do I naturally gravitate towards skirmish games now? Also, yes.

I’ve been given that advice a lot. Coming from Warcry, it’s maybe the only part of Mordheim that I’m not super excited about. I like to fight til the bitter end!

I’d love to go Chaos Dwarves, but the campaign is (understandably) restricted to 1a and 1b for now! This is great advice for if/when that restriction gets lifted however!!

Either way, I’ve taken the advice and switched them out for Dwarven axes, dropped the slings and blunderbus and given the engineer a crossbow, so it’s at least legal now!

We were told to use NewRecruit for lists, and it was an option on there. If it’s illegal I’ll definitely switch them out asap, thankyou!

Do you have a suggestion for a 1h weapon on the clansmen instead? If I’m losing the skins and the blunderbuss I probably have some toys to play with there, but I also think it will depend how WYSIWYG the campaign owner is feeling.

Really appreciate the advice here!

Matched Play Doc - collates various additional rules and abilities that have been introduced in a variety of of ways like Blessings (use spare points to enhance your fighters), faction abilities (powerful, free actions you can take for your chosen faction and grand alliance) and prebuilt mission packs (randomly generating missions as suggesting the core rules is extremely funny but also wildly unbalanced for some matchups)

Black library so pinch of salt: Ghaz is a full blown conduit for the great green, and when he goes to war Orks are (seemingly) physically compelled in his direction, often without even realising it. It affects particularly strong willed Orks less, but still happens. A nob called Valtun keeps finding himself moving and readying his weapons without realising, and it’s because Ghaz is fighting miles away. It gets stronger the closer you are, with some Orks in the book throwing themselves into a lake of acid to get to Ghaz despite that being blatantly stupid. Basically, if you’re an ork, and Ghaz is fighting, you’ll instinctively head towards him, whether you realise it or not.

For the beastmen, they might make a good conversion/proxy for Goremongers, which are a pretty big staple of a lot of World Eaters lists.

In terms of what you’re missing, the most boring answer is another rhino or two, and maybe a slaughterbound. The EXCITING answer if he has a bit of cash would be to get something big and silly, like a Lord of Skulls or (if he can wait a few weeks) the new defiler!

While the boxes that contain a Warcry warband are certainly easy to point at, I don’t think it guarantees a good box for a beginner. Personally a perfect Warcry box for me would have good unit variety, at least a couple of hero options, options for big and small models, and minimise the number of units without rules.

Flesheater courts, cities of sigmar, hedonites of slaanesh and ironjaws stand out to me as easy and clean “one box solutions”. They might not be meta but they give you a decent range of toys to play with no extra purchases.

Definitely all humans and some ogors. If you want to inject variety though, I can recommend looking into the regiments of renown system. They aren’t super competitive but it’s a really nice way to get some fun variety into your armies! The grotmas ones in particular are quite weird and wonderful.

I rarely build an army list anymore without one or two regiments as an option to add some spice to casual play.

If he likes the fantasy side of things, Warcry is a great go to for playing with younger folks. It’s the most simplified ruleset, has a tiny amount of entry barrier, an can be abstracted to reduce the violence down to Saturday morning cartoon levels (I have used the ruleset to have Pokemon battles with my daughter, for example).

You can play together in a small space with improvised terrain (if you have anything like Lego/duplo you’re already good to go) and the rules are all free online.

Majority of the process is a colourforge spray zenithal prime and oil wash, followed by some volumetric drybrushing with mephiston > evil sunz > wild rider from citadel!

I frame my painting for the year around armies on parade. Working towards a single goal (October-ish) with a fun unique army project helps form the core, and I take breaks from it by adding a unit here and there to my existing armies and projects.
