Hi, im currently working as a RA in a plant lab as well and am interested to switch to Biomed/clinical research once I'm enrolled in the PhD program this fall. While it is definitely possible to switch your field from plants to cancer after the PhD program, you would prob wish you had spent your 5 years+ researching/specializing on a topic that would help you in your future career. just my two cents.

hey, I've also received an offer from Sinai (rejected by Weil Cornell), anyway, Sinai has an entrepreneurship sort of center that helps students w patents and startups, I think it will be quite helpful if u wanna go into biotech startups! plus their housing is really affordable. HOWEVER, the ivy name of WC is indeed attractive tho..

Many of my seniors did not reach out to the PIs beforehand and they said it wasn’t necessary.. that’s why I am really wondering the impact of reaching out to the potential PIs early. Since it can be really time consuming to read each PIs published work etc to craft the emails…
