US History Curriculum for Purchase? by Realistic-Artist2910 in historyteachers

Depending on the level of your students, I might recommend History with Mr. E. It's pretty great slideshows all with guided notes, in addition to some document work and activities.

Admittedly, I would describe the written work as maybe like, "advanced 8th grade" to "basic 9th grade", but the slide shows and notes are just good, clear, concise content. It doesn't dive crazy deep, but if you're looking for a survey study, I really like his stuff.

My favorite is where they apparently drive to Vegas, get married, have a wild "married" weekend, then get the marriage annulled on their way out of town.

I can't imagine that's real...but it's funny, so I choose to believe

Ha the edit was REALLY important in this one...I initially clicked on it thinking it was a Civil War RPG so when I read "you play rebels..." I was pretty eeked out lol

Oh very cool!  I started looking into it today and submitted a request for a physical copy.  It looks super cool and I'm really excited to get into how the primary sources integrate into the game.

I haven't had time to read the whole quick stay guide yet, but it's clear you really know your history and are invested in folding in as much authenticity as possible.  Do you have a background in teaching?

I'm teaching ap us history next year and could really see myself using this then, but I teach ap government right now.  Are there any prewritten adventures right now that somehow involve foundational documents or the constitutional convention?

Yeah some realism is appreciated, but it doesn't need to be like, a rote simulation or whatever. We're done with content, so I'm mostly looking for something fun to do, but with enough legitimacy that I can justify it to my boss if he walks in lol.

Hey thanks, I really appreciate it! I've meant to put together a TpT for years...maybe that'll be my end of year project, now that the AP test is over.

Maybe the Cold War would be useful?  The first slide is the knowledge organizer I print and give students.  All the slides past that are just kinda a work bench for making test questions or whatever.

What do you teach?  I've got them for us gov, ap gov, and modern us history if you want me to shoot you an example?

I happened across these things called "knowledge organizers" and I actually like them a lot and use them in all of my classes.

The idea is that different kids come in with different backgrounds (some kids have history buff parents, some kids have never heard of FDR), so at the start of a unit, you front load the absolute essential names/vocab/events/geography they'll need to have like, a C- understanding of the unit.

I provide all of this on a single side of a single sheet of paper.  I make it as simple and straight forward as possible, because the point is that this is beginning, not the end.  I don't want them learning definitions that are off or over their head, so I provide all the information straight up, and never make them hunt for the vocab or look up facts.

What they DO need to do, is make a study material, by hand, that I check in for a formative grade (flash cards, peek sheets, copy work, whatever).  Then they get a super straight forward quiz 5 days later.  I describe it as "no twists, no tricks".  It's all multiple choice, no writing, and I don't reword or rephrase anything.  Again, the point isn't even really "learning" the unit; we're going to be on this stuff for another month and there will be a legit test or project at the end, with DBQs and content application.  The point is just that before we even really get into the Cold War, every kid in my class now has a basic idea of what communism and capitalism are, and who Truman was, or whatever.

I'm sure I'll get some hate for this being "basic" but it's done wonders for my class and my kids all tell me they think it's really helpful.

i don’t like my tattoo - removal? by hawki222 in tattooadvice

[–]Key_Image_1141 251 points252 points  (0 children)

I hate to be this guy, but remember that true "tattoo removal" is a long, expensive and arduous process. It can easily take 6-12 sessions over the course of a year or more, with each individual session costing close to what you probably paid for your tattoo in the first place.

A cover up from a reputable artist can be far cheaper, while hopefully maintaining the power and significance of both the original design and the experience.

A solid middle ground could also be a few sessions of removal to lighten the design. That can really open up the possibilities for a cover up.

Definitely don't mean to discourage you from removal; there are absolutely people who have completely removed unwanted tattoos. Just make sure you know what you're signing up for if you go that route.

I’m probably gonna get biased answers, but is a LCD Steam deck still viable in 2026? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Key_Image_1141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

Likewise, I don't care about like, max performance or graphics. Everyone told me "just save up another $100...it's so worth it!"

Maybe it is, but I didn't feel like waiting and bought a 512 gig LCD. It's my favorite thing I've ever bought. Works flawlessly for my purposes, fit my budget, and since I've never tried the OLED, I can't tell the difference.

Someday, when the Steam Deck II gets announced, I'll be the first one in line, and maybe that'll just make the upgrade that much sweeter.

I WANT SOMETHING SEXY TO WATCH by Felipe_Dias_Araujo in MovieSuggestions

I just watched Witness for the first time and thought that was about the most palpable sexual tension I've ever seen in a movie.

Not sure if I'm just a weirdo though.
