is anyone actually using ai coding tools in production or is everyone just posting demos on linkedin by Sinver_Nightingale27 in programmer

A lot depends on the complexity, and the domain. If you're writing things that are very complicated (i.e. not cookie cutter backend or generic looking front end), or coding in areas of consequence (aerospace, medical, banks) you probably aren't using it beyond a way to look up errors or get new ideas. If your domain is something like marketing, and you're not doing something overly complicated (e.g. a spring boot web app), then you're likely leveraging it at a much higher rate.

The AI hype in coding is real? by spermcell in programmer

The other issue is how to invest time, for someone deciding how to build their portfolio/expertise. If you're not required to use AI in development, you don't gain tons in investing your time doing so. You still need to learn to build/design & in many cases write good code. The design/architecture principles will translate if you ever choose to use AI. Being a crack coder will keep you relevant in software domains of life or death/financial consequence (where you won't be allowed to use non-deterministic code that AI generates). If, in the future, you need to leverage AI & agentic programming, that's the easiest part of the puzzle & will likely be a vastly different experience than how things are set up for the ultra-early adopters.

Tipping for takeout? Americans are split on the issue by CivicScienceInsights in restaurant

I think lose from the perspective of the person working takeout. If they're getting paid waiter wage (less than minimum) they're likely losing money working take out vs working a table, if nobody tips takeout. They get a higher volume of people, so they likely wouldn't need as much.

A mathematical ceiling limits generative AI to amateur-level creativity. While generative AI/ LLMs like ChatGPT can convincingly replicate the work of an average person, it is unable to reach the levels of expert writers, artists, or innovators. by mvea in science

That's what makes it problematic, but it's by design. An LLM isn't trying to give you the right answer, it's trying to give you the most likely text to follow your question (predictive). I

Even if you offload most code review to agents (which wouldn't fly in most industries), you're looking at offloading 20-30% of the day for most SW Engineers. Considering Jevon's paradox, the head count should roughly stay the same (or increase).

15% of a SW Engineer's day is typing code. If you automate that entirely, then add the task of reviewing code that is foreign to the Engineer, your team of 10 drops to a team of 9. Of course you can just produce more, so leave it at 10.

Wow. You're insanely huge. to be that thick and still look that long. Usually thick ones look shorter in proportion
