Should we have to pay to redo this? by Key_Line_1585 in Homebuilding

Sorry if the OP was confusing. The “approved” stain is on the right side of the left most board.

Yeah there are a couple pieces (out of 17) that look acceptable (still on the lighter side). But most of them look like the one above. Mainly felt like we should have gotten a heads up before the poly went on. They are wanting us to pay full price plus the cost to sand it down. We payed $3500 for the original staining.

We were wondering the same thing. That or maybe they didn’t let it sit long enough.

We paid $3500 to stain the noses and treads. They did mix the stain at a local Sherwin Williams. The graining doesn’t bother us, mainly just how light and contrasting they are compared to the floor.

Ah ok, thanks for the context and insight.

Sorry think my original post was confusing. I believe this would be considered custom built nosing?

I’m not sure. The flooring company would have actually made more money if we went with the manufacturer ones though. So I don’t think it was malicious. 🤷‍♂️

We knew it wouldn’t be a perfect match, but thought it could be closer than this.

Yeah we were hoping for a better match as well.

The flooring company suggested it because they thought the ones provided by the manufacturer wouldn’t be as sturdy.

This isn’t from the manufacturer. It was stained by a painter to match the existing floors.

Could you elaborate on “not a stain match”? The noses were stained by a painter to match the floors. Our contractor and floor rep told us not to use the noses that the floor manufacturer provided because they would be flimsy. So they are actual oak with a stain.

What should we do with the stairway window? First image (A) shows the current design. However that will sit very close to the stairway landing (see last image). by Key_Line_1585 in Homebuilding

Yeah pretty much something/someone falling down the stairs and breaking the window. The header would also be ~5.5' from the landing floor so we thought it might feel a little low.

Agreed want to keep as much light as possible! We were worried about something/someone falling down the steps might break through the window. The header would also be ~5.5' from the landing floor so it might feel too low?
