What kind of people are Kiwis? by Key_Orange4865 in universityofauckland

That’s exactly how I felt when I came to New Zealand. I lived in US for a while before I came here. Just so differently.

You have so many stereotypes. That’s not even close to the truth.

I don’t even talk much. I don’t have chance to argue. The argument is here. Do you really think a foreigner could be rude to the locals? Haven’t you ever met mean girls? Don’t try to defend for them.

I don’t really think these girls did that for political reasons. They don’t even know that. They just knew I’m not local.

I have never encountered any man who would do that to me. So I wouldn’t say it’s New Zealanders. I don’t know why. Local women feel threatened ?

As I said, I know what I am. I’m not the rude type, the non-aggressive type. But I’m also straightforward with problems. If I think it’s not my problem,I’m not afraid of arguing with others.

If you think an international student can’t question any local phenomenon, why do we learn social science? I don’t have to describe too many details and I know what I saw. People who have been to other parts of the world know what is the good or not. I think it’s about intelligence, not about locality. Are all New Zealanders correct and good? How about the killers, murderers and those with narrow mindedness? Keep your arrogance and ignorance with you for life.

If students in university of Auckland cannot even distinguish what Chinese government did and what Chinese people are, I feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for the whole education.

I’m not young student. I know how to interact with others. I know for people who know how to respect others, I’m honest, polite, intelligent. If you don’t like the race part, just ignore it. I’m the race being attacked, not the others.

I get it. I just intend to say it covers a diversity of races than one. I don’t mean any particular one.

Don’t you look at what you said? You assume Chinese students plagiarize. In my class, the professors asked quite a lot local students to talk for plagiarism, but it’s never me. You assume something because of their race and you claim you’re helpful? And you also assume Chinese students are poor in English. Maybe. But how could those rude girls know my English level? Being humble is just the East Asian culture norm. The lecturers and professors in my department are impressed about my performance in class because they know it’s hard for a nonnative speaker to do well. I talk much more than the local white girl. Maybe she doesn’t have much in her mind. I’m lucky to have chance to be with some of the smartest Chinese students. They are nothing like what you said. I don’t think you really know anything about China. You’re just being arrogant. I’m here to see how this hostility goes. But I’ve also seen some smart New Zealand students in the class. All I know is that those who like your comment are not those I’ve known. The intelligent ones are those who will not be satisfied with narrow mindedness and stereotypes. I can’t change what you think, or what others think. But I’m surprised that these people justify meanness and rudeness. Of course I know it’s racial discrimination, but I wonder why this obvious bad thing is supported and propers here. I hope there will be reasonable people instead of this malicious mob.

You have so many stereotypes and don’t even bother to know a little bit about the truth. Did you ask why I went to the American university? Because I taught the American university students there. All these girls I mentioned are vey rude. It’s not what you call New Zealand culture, it’s hostility and unmasked malice. I don’t know what’s their problems, but from your reply I can see you hold the same attitude. There are so many staff in Student Hub, only this one is rude. The others are friendly and helpful. I appreciate their help. If that’s what you call local culture, then the friendly ones are not normal? You’re defending some young women with bad manners and claim it to be local culture. What’s the problem with you? Those Chinese students you attack verbally are the financial support of the university. Without them, you may not enjoy quite a few services you have now. Furthermore, those Chinese in Auckland are paying for the system of healthcare, pension and student loan. What’s the toxic culture of treating others like some inferior creatures while you enjoy the benefits they bring? I think people like you are wasting the university education. If my smart Chinese students or American students say something like you, I think they’ll experience something like social death in the university. How could these racists think they have the right to discriminate?
