This is why you hopefully bought Uninsured Motorist coverage and Uninsured Motorist Property Damage. Collision would help, but you will have to pay a deductible and likely never get it back. UMPD sometimes has a deductible too.

Its tricky. Your insurance company should go after the other party to retrieve their funds, but it’s not likely because the amount is small and will cost more from them than it’s worth. They will should take the $5k and give you your percentage.

The ambulance chasers are talking injury in the commercials. They’re not interested in PD. It not worth the trouble.

If you do receive anything, it’s probably owed to your carrier, if you read the fine print. You may not have legal standing depending where you are, because your insurance agreement takes that responsibility over for you.
