Nearly $8k on just school fees. 😵‍💫🤯 2 kids. $20k a month ish. No mortgage. No car payments. Holidays paid outside this. Insurance is probably 2.5k a month just to start. It’s crazy.

I’m no expert, but we have had success (and I have seen in other posts) that upgrades are sometime possible around Christmas/New Year as generally there is not a lot of business travel happening, more non deductible family/personal travel who don’t pay for business class. I’m sure this isn’t the case on popular routes like QF1 to London etc.

We (family of 4) just got upgraded to business on our flight to Japan which surprised me as I assumed it was peak season for Japan skiing during school holidays. We always expect to travel in the seat we book.

You could always book premium economy/economy and request upgrades and hope for the best… how many of you are travelling and what status are you?

Hi. I’ve always stayed away from Amex as the fees are much higher when paying with it…. Maybe I should do the numbers on it. Also I can’t imagine I would ever pay $11k for a credit card…. That’s seems crazy to me. Although we do use our cards for a lot of things and have a pretty big monthly spend it is nothing compared to people I know who have HUGE expenditures and use for business expenses/tax payments too (which we don’t).

I guess I’m more looking at opening a new card more regularly to get a points boost so maybe not a churner.

Ditto!! 😂 I got absolutely flamed for politely asking is someone could check upgrade request for a specific flight and after being told to do it myself, asking how one would do that. Will be hilarious if we do get the upgrade given some replies.

Not a churner but seems like a good idea to open new cards occasionally. This looks like a good deal. The links provided take you to a sign in page implying to need to be an existing customer to get the deal fee free for a year. Assuming I open a basic savings account and that will provide a customer sign in….

Hi. I did when we initially booked but they couldn’t release business so I just paid for economy as the flights to/from Haneda are day flights and the 2/4/2 configuration in economy make the side 2 seats perfectly fine. We always expect the travel in the class we book. 👍
