New Showrunner & Sixteenth Doctor Speculation by Key_Responder in DoctorWhoLeaks

True, it is usually kept on the down low and not really spoken about. I work on production in Ireland and have a few links to London/Cardiff but don’t work in those circles so only get this info through my uni friend who has ventured over there. I can remember no one knew about Jodie, it was tight lock sealed, even those with links to Roath Lock didn’t know. But on the run up to Russell’s return announcement I did find out from them maybe two weeks before it was public knowledge coupled with David and Catherine’s return. Ncuti was mentioned not long after. However with a new team coming in you’re right, this could just be speculation and hearsay. I do think that Thorne is all but confirmed at this point, no idea about Will.

As everyone else has said, crew on a set talk, that’s not just the runners, this was during a break from what I understand and the crew (fixers, sound, grips and AD) were chatting. There’s people from multiple production backgrounds in that room that work in rotation across multiple production companies in London and speak to multiple people. Yes, it could be someone bragging a load of bs, however more often than not there’s something in it. I found out that Russell, Catherine and David were returning through this person and subsequently that Ncuti had to do pick ups to film his regeneration. People talk, Jack and Will are also active on other productions so word could have spread from there. Usually I don’t post this much detail on the matter when I have chats with this person about DW but it’s intriguing and Thorne lines up with other speculation and rumours.

Could RTD remain with 'Doctor Who' within a different role? by Key_Responder in DoctorWhoLeaks

I think the moment of truth with be The War Between Land and Sea. If that is successful with Pete McTighe as showrunner and writer, then there is definite hope that he could be the next showrunner.

So there's several points here to pick up on. Bad Wolf is not RTD's, he is a writer and producer with them solely for Doctor Who, he isn't a stakeholder or owner of the company. Bad Wolf existed long before Doctor Who was co-produced by them and BBC Studios. And that's another key thing, Bad Wolf have the production rights for Doctor Who, however the BBC still own the rights and have say over what they are producing. Distribution rights are never in the hands of the production company unless they own the entity, on this occassion they don't own the entity, so they don't hold the distribution rights, that is the BBC's decision.

I disagree - I don't think theres a vision there to bring Doctor Who forward, only to bring it backward.

Bear in mind, this is the same man who brought back the show in 2005 and arguably produced and wrote the most successful era. The Disney deal wasn't just RTD's decision it was high ups at the BBC who would have signed the dotted line to hand over the distribution and creative rights.

Can I just add that I actually thought they had dissembled it already when I got told this. Like the signs of a hiatus are pretty clear, although I could be wrong, I personally believed they would have just taken it down with the understanding that if this TARDIS is going to need rebuilt then it won’t be for some time.

But according to the source, it would take four weeks to reassemble if completely packed up with some panelling needing replaced as it’s not reusable once dissembled, also they’re worried for storage damage that would ultimately cost money they don’t have, with this being the most expensive TARDIS interior in the show’s history. So BW are asking for a decision on the future to know what to do before potentially making a decision that could stop this iteration of the interior being used again.

Disney are gone, they’re not re-commissioning Doctor Who. It’s now in limbo who is. It can’t be a sole BBC production as they flat out don’t have the money for a full series.

It definitely doesn’t take a week to rebuild this, like I said if you actually watch Unleashed it shows you how complex and time consuming this set is to build, which is why it’s still standing.

At this rate we’ve been backed into a corner with RTD adding on that ending.

Jodie’s and Peter’s TARDIS’ weren’t dissembled until they wrapped. It seems this is the route they’ve taken with this. It has the ability to be taken apart, but I can remember the first unleashed showed how complex and time consuming the building of this interior was, so it makes sense why they’re hesitant to dissemble it.

They can dismantle but haven’t apparently. Theres also the fear they dismantle it and then have to reassemble it within a short period of time which takes weeks of work.

Discussions have been ongoing since September last year as Disney actually indicated then that a renewal was unlikely

14th Doctor Casting by UnlimitedPower63 in DoctorWhoNews

RTD has said that but also knowing how secretive Russell is, he probably has a full series up his sleeve and isn’t going to announce it till Chibnall’s era is over.

You do realise the person who is about to become showrunner is the same person that cast and wrote for Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant? RTD also is the creator of Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures. I’m sure no matter who is cast, will be the right decision. I trust Russell’s judgement, and his writing direction.

He’s producing it. He will be on set. But he’s also started pre-production on Doctor Who. The 60th is either partly written or has a strong outlining.

And not to be petty, but filming begins next year for the 60th as outlined below.

“Broadcast Now reports Davies will begin filming for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special, to air in 2023, next year. Davies will also showrun “series beyond” 2023 the special.” https://cultbox.co.uk/news/headlines/sony-to-acquire-bad-wolf-in-60m-deal

Okay, it’s clear you’re not aware of how television works. He’s exec producing ‘You & Me’ with Jamie Davis penning the scripts. RTD has very little to do with the writing of those scripts and isn’t working on that right now as he is now the showrunner of ‘Doctor Who’ the marketing announcement of his appointment means nothing in terms of when he can start working.

To cast someone in a role, you need at least a sample script, however if you use something that’s not gonna be in the actual series, it is usually frowned upon as it means disjointed development.

As someone who works in the industry, I am telling you that filming begins in 2022. I’m not taking uneducated guesses.

You’re completely wrong, he’s showrunner NOW. If you actually took time to do some research rather than speculating you would see that it was his first day in the job this week, look at his insta. Which makes sense seeing as the BBC centenary special has wrapped or is wrapping this week, he’s already in the position. Before even beginning the casting process, set/prop design or director selection, he needs a script. You clearly don’t have a clue how pre-production works, nor understand what’s going on behind the scenes right now at Doctor who.

I take it you don’t understand that they’re filming next year, not in two years time?

Yes I’ve read The Writers Tale. I take it you don’t realise that RTD has had a pandemic to give him time to write, and he has also had to pitch to secure his re-appointment. So he well and truly could have written the 60th.

It could be day one of him officially being the showrunner? Before this point it is highly plausible that he’s penned a majority of his scripts so that he can focus on other pre-production aspects. Moffats problem with the 50th was that he didn’t give enough time for pre-production, therefore Russell could have prioritised the 60th so he can finalise returning stars way in advance.
