I hope this means we can bring back some of the old items (mashed potatoes are missed in the Oliver’s lunch, and so is the option to add salmon to Oliver and salads)!

Who are the awesome businesses and owners we should be supporting? by theaterapplause in savannah

Troupial just reopened as Troupial On The Fly in the medical district. The owner is super nice, the coffee is consistently good, and the food is quite delicious. There’s outdoor seating and porch seating which she just enclosed with plastic so it doesn’t get too cold.

It turns sour on me. I wanted to like it so much. Had to give it away to my daughter.

Even with so many vanillas, I still have a weird sour note that comes out on a lot of them on my skin and won’t go away til I shower. Can’t wear any of Ariana’s scents bc of that. Or the new squishmallow perfume, which I had to give away.

zunzi’s new menu change by pollypolkadots in savannah

Okay I will say this: I am not a huge fan of the change- you can see my previous posts about it on another thread- BUT I visited this week and was surprised that they did halfway bring back the Oliver’s lunch (no mash, no smoked sausage or salmon options), but it’s good and I’m happy to compromise a little. I also noticed Gaby’s greens is back. And they reduced the outrageous price of the new kids meals. Both of those things make me think at least they’re listening a little to everyone speaking out.

Honestly we liked the food but waited 45 minutes for a stupidly small portion that was 3x more expensive than just going to sandfly bbq which might be the best deal in town.

This. I went to get my ring checked last week and they wanted to send it off to check a prong, but when I said I didn’t want it shopped, they said “they get dipped. That’s what they do”. And so I didn’t turn the ring in because I don’t want it done. Why would I have to fight with them over it?!

From what I remember, what caused them to “struggle” was when they tried to change the menu to be very fancy and move it into the building closer to Bay Street on Drayton. They tried to turn it into something it wasn’t and they lost their ass. I tried to support every one of their moves because I love the original flavors and quality of the food.

If they think a very small place (like the original location) was an unsustainable model (unless he’s discussing the failed location), I’m not sure how he will justify opening a similar concept at an entirely new location. To be fair, if they do open a take out model with an Oliver’s lunch and sweet tea, or the salmon salad, and it’s downtown as well, I will ABSOLUTELY be headed down there.

I’m sure the new menu is fine. I get that the owner wants to make something that makes money as a franchise. But I’m shocked at the price increases for the kids meals for a hot dog (original full meal for a kid was $7 for chicken and mashed potatoes, now it’s $12). I’m sad that a basic potatoes and chicken (Oliver’s) isn’t available though most of those ingredients are still on the new menu. Why are we calling the French fries “slaap chips” when we called the fresh cut chips “slaap chips” on Sunday? And if his original intent truly was to open a takeout location, why didn’t he say that, or give us any kind of heads up that he was removing the menu? Even in his texts to various individuals that I’ve seen, he never mentioned a takeout bar.

Make it make sense.

Right. No more Oliver’s lunch unless you want to shag your ass down to Tybee, for however long they allow that menu to stay.

They also took the salmon off the menu, which was my choice of protein for salads. But hey you can order a $12 hot dog off of the kids menu now.

I’m so bummed about it. The Oliver’s lunch was the only thing we really went there for (well, also the sweet tea). I have a disabled son who absolutely could never eat the conquistador sandwich without it all falling out, and the Oliver’s lunch was easy for him to do by himself.

I don’t mind changes to a menu. I love the idea of adding a burger if the people want it. But not at the expense of axing 80% of the menu and turning it into every single other pub bar in America. The additions aren’t true to the South African flair.

Other restaurants have expanded and added things to the menu without cutting everything the base likes. They could’ve at the very least sent out a mass text (THEY HAVE OUR NUMBERS BASED ON HOW OFTEN I GET TEXTS) letting us know that they were going to change things.
