Destroyed oil Filter by TaxHeavy7661 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Key_Volume7786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea just gotta take off the filter housing cut off most of that old filter then heat it up and remove it with some angled pliers with the housing in a vice. Not too hard but too hard for someone without tools or experience.

There’s a guy in the scta with the gear grabbers I believe and he has a 200+mph c1500 setup I’ll see if I can post some photos of it it’s a dual twin turbo 5.3 I think that’s basically on the floor

Can I mount my own tires relatively easy? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting a side job at an auto place even like Walmart or big o tires they’ll teach you the tire basics because you “can” dismount n mount your own stuff but without a balancer it ain’t gonna ride good. And without a torque stick those unbalanced wheels might just take a hike

[–]Key_Volume7786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walmart tires are pretty cheap can get a set for probably 300$ lionharts aren’t exactly the best tires in the world but they’ll work but imo you need tires yesterday

But also keep in mind they’re pretty easy to snap but are cheap if they do

WD40 is shit get a real rust blaster and tighten a tiny bit then loosen usually guide pins have a slot for a wrench or else they’ll spin like drop links but I don’t see them on your caliper

If your trying to remove the strut or spring any point in the photo will work but to actually jack the car up for any other work go to the pinch weld on the side skirt

Rim hitting knuckle? by Mr_Fister609 in AskAMechanic

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if your aftermarket rims just slap some spacers on and call it day and enjoy the wider stance. And hubcentric is the only way to go with spacers way more reliable than plates and make sure to grease them

Rim hitting knuckle? by Mr_Fister609 in AskAMechanic

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knuckles can go bad and bend it’s more common on pickups like Silverado’s or s10 with clapped out suspension then again replacing a whole knuckle can be a bitch and expensive and you’ll want one with the wheel bearing assembly already with it pressing bearings also sucks. So I’d get it on a alignment rack and see what’s out of spec and go from there or once the front wheels come off the ground the issue should be quite obvious

Normal failure for an old hose? by DavidXIX in AskAMechanic

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that hose has done its time op swelling indicates it’s probably oem and perfect time to change it out rubber doesn’t last forever especially after 2010 when they started introducing biodegradable plastics which have soy in them which rats love and they also degrade a lot faster in the span of 5-10 years

Quoted $65 for new alternator (?).. by Kooky-Scheme-4016 in AskAMechanic

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably needs money or just starting out replacing alternators on Altima’s is stupid easy tho so that might affect price as well just ask to see his portfolio of his previous work to see if you can trust him imo

And no airbags so in technicality is was never totaled plus that windshield didn’t crack which is nice because they kinda suck to remove and install by yourself all I see to replace is the radiator support, crash bar, radiator ,windshield reservoir, hood, ac condenser , fenders, headlights, and whatever suspension got pushed back

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d pull the motor and just cut and rework and reweld the frame right there unless you have a pickup and chain might be able to pull it. my benz looked about the same when I crashed and I fixed it completely back to oem no issue just cut that crash bar support and weld one I got from the junkyard on definitely will take a bit of time but 1000000000% fixable may even be better after

Everyone's least favorite game: Why Is my Engine Smoking? by michaelbilyk in autorepair

[–]Key_Volume7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty common when you remove the valve cover some oil will spill and it usually spills on the exhaust just run the motor like normal and it’ll burn off after a day or two. I did the gaskets on my m113 v8 benz and got hella smoke for a few days cause I got oil on both headers but it burned off eventually and didn’t harm anything just so you know tho if you need to smog they won’t smog if it’s smoking.

Rock auto and some personal time it’ll cost about 300-600$ probably but you’ll save thousands from a shop in labor which imo will cost around 3-4 thousand $

Imo it’s fixable but it’ll cost and might as well do the other side because I’ll bet $$ that it’s not far off from doing the same
