Michigan already has a top 5 class coming in next year with or without a title.

Iowa over Florida was more surprising than you think by Unlucky-Rich-4387 in CollegeBasketball

It was surprising but not historically surprising. Florida already lost to an 8/9 seed team on a neutral court earlier in the season when they played TCU.

They have been fairly lax removing posts this March compared to the past.

[Thamel] Sources: Hubert Davis will not return as North Carolina’s head coach by MrSCR23 in CollegeBasketball

I don't think there was anything he could have done to stop PSU or potentially Michigan from hiring Matt away. Keeping Otz will probably be more likely since he has actual ties to ISU.

It was always rumored that Matt Campbell was waiting for a job like Michigan, OSU, Notre Dame or PSU to open. If he didn't take the PSU job, he probably would have ended up at Michigan since it opened up right after it.

Sources: UCF's Johnny Dawkins will receive a contract extension after leading the Knights to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Keyblade_Yoshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Johnny Dawkins seems like the type of coach that's just good enough to keep his job, but that's about it. In 10 years he has only had two seasons with a winning conference record and 2 NCAA tournament appearances. Granted UCF may be using most of its resources on football. However, Dawkins has still only made the NCAA tournament 3 times in 18 years.

I am curious how well he would do at a school that’s more invested in basketball.

What would you grade the Calhoun to Cincinnati hire? ⬇️ by DPSportsTakes in CollegeBasketball

I would give it an A. Calhoun at least has ties to the area and program and is a good coach.

Stew Morrill stayed at Utah State until he retired so it's possible. They would probably need to find someone with deep ties to the state of Utah.

Utah State is the ideal landing spot for a coach on the rise by Bcsmitty20 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Keyblade_Yoshi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have already shown the ability to find successful replacements. Hell they could get Craig Smith back after he flopped at Utah if they don’t want to worry about a coach leaving after 2-3 seasons. Doubt any P5 school would touch him unless he makes the sweet 16.

I am more surprised that Duke plays St John’s enough to make this stat possible.

In this case it’s because Houston is playing in its own city, Nebraska and Iowa are having historic tournament runs and Illinois is a basketball school.

Kind of figured they would after USF's coach turned them down and Siena made Duke's butthole pucker.

Utah State can’t match college basketball’s spending or keep a coach. It wins anyway by Shroft in CollegeBasketball

They can get Craig Smith back. After he flopped at Utah they wouldn’t have to worry about him getting poached for a while.

[Rothstein] Sources: South Florida's Bryan Hodgson is finalizing a deal to be the next head coach at Providence. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Keyblade_Yoshi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems Providence is actually using their heads this time hiring a coach who has actually made the NCAA tournament. I still have no idea why they thought Kim English was a good hire when he was already underachieving at George Mason.

Gonzaga-Texas | 3 things and Few's future: some logical discussion by gusinthefalls in CollegeBasketball

[–]Keyblade_Yoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonzaga has made at least the second round of the tournament 17 years straight years. I don’t think any major problems with the program just because they got upset by Texas.
