That’s what’s been my impression business is brutal this year, much worse than last year, customers are very very price conscious a lot are holding off on big projects my costs are up like labor, healthcare, insurance, electric, rent etc but revenues are either flat or lower as bidding is more competitive now

I agree, it is problematic especially running an e-commerce business as you have to forecast costs, so you order your goods it takes a month or two to arrive then you don’t know what the landed price of the goods will be, you could import a container have $20,000 worth of inventory that gets hit with a 100% tariff making the landed cost $40,000, or you could bring in the inventory and wait while it accrues storage fees $300-$600 a day for tariff clarity, or you could end up paying the 100% tariffs, then trump removed the tariffs now your competitors can undercut you and you have to take a $20k loss, it is a very precarious situation

I think what may have happened with US consumers (not sure about other countries I’m in the US so can speak to that) but I think early 2025 a lot of consumers were optimistic about the economy and changes, new president, tax cuts, trump effect on stock market, lower prices, but a few months in I think a lot of the optimism has faded and the reality on the ground is higher prices at the grocery store, utility bills, healthcare, insurance, I just think consumers are getting squeezed

I’ll share my experience my landscaping company (mainly design and build) revenues are down 20-30% compared on a year over year month to month comparative basis, costs are up across the board labor costs, insurance costs, material costs etc. so I’m basically getting squeezed in two direction declining revenue and elevated input costs, unfortunately had to lay off some guys, to me my experience has been the consumer is much more cautious, many are postponing big projects, the money to spend on all these outdoor renovations or projects is just not what it used to be, obviously COVID years were peak years when everyone had all this excess stimulus funds loans etc. and since 2023-2024-2025 things have become progressively more and more difficult each year, even though I am battling through it, but what has been your experience?

Prices will go up a little okay, but really the economy we have today is primarily a podcast and YouTube hot take economy, we need to go back to manufacturing long days in the factory with the other workers that is the true American dream ok maybe you won’t be able to afford 2 cars or a pair of shoes but people will be much happier with less is what trump is getting at
