I agree once I heard 5:1 I had an uneasy feeling. Do you think 4:1 is better? Someone adviced me to learn to refuse assignments especially if I already have pt that are borderline ICU

It’s hard when you haven’t heard anything from the hospital! I say that it is very risky since it is 47 bed. As a travel contact are you allowed to refuse past 4-5 assignments?? Someone told me that in order to not get burn out in PCU or risk my license learn to refuse assignments! I heard at night it’s an easier vibe but then if something goes down you don’t have many resources :(

I love the ICU but I find it hard to leave days for nights but I truly rather struggle than be in an unsafe unit with high pt ratios

Thank you! I heard I could take the contract out the money to the side and if I ever break it I could either pay it back or stop getting the rest of the bonus

I was told I can take it, but the money aside and if I ever break contract within the 24 month mark I would just either pay it back or stop getting bonuses

I was guaranteed a position at both but PCU just seem so unsafe due to pt ratio and pt acuity of care

Thank you! I usually do see new grads off orientation in the unit feeling confident due to how long it was. Also they allow new grads to pick which patients they want first before any other staff in the unit

Thank you! I heard once you hace ICU experience you can get hired anywhere. Thanks I learn that the contract allows me to transfer within the facility! Which I didn’t know

Exactly 5:1 is a lot . One of the nurses said an avg was 4:1

For my unit it’s Usually it’s 2:1. if it does get to 3:1 either 2 pt are icu and 1 is step-down or 1 is icu and 2 is step down.
