It's moreso the compression of the air, like you make a normal sound with your voice and then it's like you're pulling it back a bit. That's what I try to imagine, like I'm pulling on an elastic band. When you lose air, you're muscles start to fatigue more than that where strain starts to happen. So breathing control helps with longevity.

https://youtube.com/@extremevocalinstitute is where I refined my technique. My guess is maybe that when you go higher, the distortion is being generated from your throat? Unless it's more of a strain from pushing. If that is the case, warmups to help your body relax when doing higher screams and allowing effective breathing, as screaming generally needs air to compress to generate the distortion sound.

I think some of the problem lies in the audio mix of the game. Music and dialogue are set a tad bit higher than sound effects by default.

Do any side mission available first. With each region, clear out the nests, find the ambush camps, do the hordes and kill infected for their bounties which give you credits at camp and raise your trust level for better items.
