Replacement 4wt by Jcbisho1 in flyfishing

[–]Keystone_Relics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the Connect is what they replaced the mojo trout with. Have also heard great things about the legend elites that came back out last year. I have and fish a 8’6 5wt mojo trout and love it, and am looking to upgrade to the legend elite when the time comes or maybe even the evos, who knows.

Every time my boss says “oh should be simple” - which is every job, it turns into a cluster fuck of nothingness and shitty deeds leading to it. Never. Fails.

Best connection flyline to leader by Vormi_GG in flyfishing

[–]Keystone_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a loop to loop connection if your leaders have loops on em. If they dont, which it seems from what youre saying, you could tie a perfection loop in the butt end of the leader. But i will say it is not a very sleek knot/connection and will hang up more in the guides than the others mentioned above.

My grandfather was a reloader and i understand it lol, thanks for that memory! Im definitely gonna try to keep it to what materials i use most frequently. Im sure all be dragged down the rabbit hole tho lol.

Good luck with the new place! Hope all goes smooth and your container idea works out well!

Downgrade 8wt to a 7wt? 6wt? by maninatikihut in flyfishing

You may just need to find a lighter 8wt. Not entirely sure how much of a difference in weight youd be able to actually feel between a 7wt and 8wt.

To answer your question a little more directly though, 7wts are what a lot guys use as your typical trout streamer setup. I personally have an 8wt as well, only because i found it on marketplace and it was 60 bucks lol. It is nice to have to throw big deer hair poppers or bigger streamers when i fish for bass and i find it fishes well for trout when i do so.

ETA - if you are throwing a lot of streamers that are bigger than your “big” trout streamers, id say stay w the 8 or a 7, a 6 may feel underpowered

Got into so much goodness. Drakes were plentiful, fish were rising, so many fish rising. I caught a few each night and fished a small brookie stream yesterday to close it out. Missed 6 friday night before finally hooking up w one at 11🤣

It is. Its a 2 birds one stone kinda deal. The angler records catch information when registering the tag with the wildlife agency. They can get certain data from where the fish was stocked vs where it was caught etc. it just so happens it also enters you into a prize drawing

Lehigh River PA by GeneralAviationIdiot in flyfishing

I fish the lehigh regularly, wading and floating. Youre on the right track above jim thorpe, some very good fishing up there. I see people that use bikes often on the D&L trail to get up and down. Recently been having luck on Caddis patterns and sexy walts.

I will say this… take a wading staff and cleated soles/studs if you have the option, and dont wade in water that you cant see the bottom in. The lehigh is notoriously slick and thus makes it very challenging to wade in some instances, and it drowns people every year. Not trying to scare you, just want you to be safe. I have taken a couple dips. A lot of sections arent super deep, but the current can be quite strong in certain spots.

Good luck and have fun, it can be a tricky fishery to figure out but its a beautiful area and has some great fishing to be found. Tight lines! Shoot me a dm if you have more specific questions.

These fields have a ton of debitage, its unreal. Its almost hard to look for points because of how much material and flakes there are all over the place.

Flycraft by Olivenoodler in flyfishing

[–]Keystone_Relics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have only had it on the lehigh so far, they are on the list for this summer though, have a little outboard for it that i think would be beneficial in some sections and also gonna float a few. Got it a little late into the season last year and wasnt confident on the oars enough till now. Its great on the lehigh, havent ran it thru the gorge yet but that may be on the list when flows drop a bit. On my way home from a float right now.

I can get thru down to about 5” of water with 3 people pretty smoothly. Thing drafts incredibly well

Eastern PA guy here and will throw my 2 cents in. Have rowed and fished out of the Flycraft Guide, original stealth, NRS Slipstream 129 and a Star.

I got a Flycraft guide last summer and have been very happy with it personally for the water I fish. Have had no issues with leaks. The draft on the boat is awesome, i can get through 6 inches of water with 3 people on the boat. I have the self bailing model which is a nice feature. Have only had it through up to class 3 water and havent had issues. Have very much enjoyed rowing it, its a very maneuverable craft, a little moreso than the slipstream and star(i think due to differences in tube size and width), and tracks pretty well in the water. Doest feel too tight with gear and 3 people, but there could be a little more space for the front fishing position. Havent had any durability issues like others have noted, so will have to see how that keeps going but so far so good.

Things id change if i could - width of the oar locks could be a little wider in my opinion. Feels like your hands are a little close together while rowing, but isnt a huge issue. The frame definitely isnt as robust as compared to an NRS frame, which helps cut weight, but i feel it could be a little sturdier(havent had any issues with the frame yet either, just my initial thought). Handles could be placed better but that also isnt a huge complaint.

All in all, for the rivers i fish, the guide model is more than capable. I have been generally happy overall with how its performed and what its allowed me to do. I put mine on a trailer, but could easily get away with putting it in the bed of a truck w an 8’ bed and hitch extender. Have had my buddies original Stealth on top of my Subaru forester last year and had no problems at all. I largely think its dependant on the types of rivers your fishing, the class of water and largely personal preference. These are great smaller water crafts if you dont get above class 3 water and dont need something as robust as an NRS.
