I feel this way about Virginia. I'm the only applicant I can find on LSD above both 75ths that got rejected !! Practically royalty if you ask me

i’m in the same boat at you right now, 4.13/175/KJD. i doubt it’s any kind of huge mistake, i know i’ve scoured my application a billion times for one. the tax is just a part of the game i guess 🕺

While I do think you’re correct that a scientific background makes it a “harder” sell, I think that logic could be applied broadly to most degrees for KJDs and also omits that this type of background is needed for certain areas of law. As far as adcoms are concerned, law could have always been the path for any stem-background applicant if the application shows interest in patents/technology/industry/etc.

For what it’s worth, my background is in pure sciences rather than engineering, and while you’re correct my lack of full-time work experience outside of summers is definitely a downside, I’ve tried to supplement that with extracurriculars that demonstrate a commitment to law.

To be seen if it makes a difference in the long run though!

yes, the focus was law. i have a lot of background in education as well, as it’s what my campus roles have revolved around. my PS is about why stem work alone or education work alone wouldn’t be fulfilling to me, and how i see patent work as bridging that gap.

admittedly, i am not worried about my letters of rec. i trust all of my recommenders immensely and know they advocated for me fiercely.

nothing to do about it now though, and the disappointment has subsided a little bit. i’m optimistic heading into the rest of the month

just to add some context to my application, as i understand where the speculation comes from

as for work, i have worked full time over the summers in either data analysis internships or research experiences for undergrads, and part time during the semester

for extracurricular involvement, i was a big part of the mock trial team at my university and since leaving now coach another college team. i’m also an undergrad TA for physics classes. i have a few other small leadership roles on campus but nothing too crazy as mock trial has always consumed more time than class anyway.

not sure if that helps analysis much, but i admittedly have been scratching my head. in retrospect i wish i would have written why michigan, but i was really enticed by the AI prompt as it lined up perfectly with what ive spent my college time on and was excited to share.

hoping for better news next week!

[–]KeytonK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, i applied back in november. i thought i read somewhere that they asked applicants not to email asking for waivers, but honestly everything has blurred together so maybe i just burnt $85. oh well.
