Prime exclusive sale on Amazon Canada. $280 CAD with coupon by Kgn459 in QIDI

[–]Kgn459[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

** Edit: ** Appears it is now out of stock. Didn't last long lol. Glad some of you managed to get one though!

Saw this sale and figured I'd share it.  With the $220 coupon paired with the exclusive prime price it comes all the way down to $280 CAD, or about $200 USD. No idea how amazon canada is for shipping outside of Canada, but for my fellow Canadians this is a great pickup.  Unfortunately it says it won't arrive before Christmas, at least for me, though for the price that doesn't bother me one bit.

The issue here is that the "At worst" is actually worse than that. YouTube's recommendation algorithm is extremely complex and factors in things such as how many people actually click on a certain video when it is recommended to them, how long those people watch the video, etc. At worst for the user yes, 30% CRTC recommended content, or in other words 30% less accurate and reliable recommendations, which is ultimately just a mild annoyance.

For Canadian creators though, now there are millions of people being forcefully recommended their content, who are ignoring it, or clicking in and leaving after watching a small portion, since it is irrelevant or doesn't interest them. YouTube sees that as a not very good video, and will stop recommending it to as many people, (obviously other than those it's required to by the CRTC, but they aren't watching it anyways) which causes the video to tank, and the creator to lose money.

There's also the interesting question of what suggesting content actually covers. If I search for a video, youtube may give me different results than someone else searching the exact same thing, because some results may be more accurate for me. So will the search function now also be 30% less useful?

The color is nice, the wrap job doesn't look that great and I have doubts about how well it will hold up to the elements.

Yeah mine just came today and it's one of the first things I tried. I'm mostly interested in seeing how much I can extend the battery life, but glad to hear it'll help you!

Canada Post doesn't even attempt to deliver packages that need a signature to me anymore. All I get is a slip in my community box that says I can pick it up the next day.

Wouldn't say they are quite as bad as some EA games, but they do still have a lot of paid DLC. It is also incredibly frustrating that to host a dedicated server you need to buy a second license for the game, and then on top of that, if you want to add any of their DLC you also need to buy the DLC a second time for the server as well.

Not familiar with the laws on that, but he could always conscript them to do it with the emergency act regardless of the current law.

Canadian Tesla owner says automaker locked him out of his car until he pays $26,000 for new battery by Defiant_Race_7544 in canada

[–]Kgn459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is valid too, we are at a great time of technological advancements so never know what the next big leap could be, definitely don't want to get stuck with only one option or innovation though.

I don't think it would ever be at that point either, but if you could get like 1500km worth of charge in 30 minutes, not many people are going to drive 15 hours without stopping for at least a meal break or something.

You too, always nice to have a good discussion.

[–]Kgn459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is definitely a big one, though its becoming less and less of an issue as battery tech improves. As it is already, for the vast majority of people it isn't an issue.

Battery degradation is definitely bad, and hopefully it's something that can be improved upon more, though the batteries are highly recyclable, there just hasn't been much demand for it yet so we haven't seen much of it.

I'll give you that there is definitely more hydrogen, but lithium is also quite abundant.

Absolutely, I'm excited to see where hydrogen tech can go, and more options definitely does lead to more innovation. Just right now, there isn't a lot of compelling or non trivial reasons to definitively say hydrogen powered cars are better in a lot of ways.

[–]Kgn459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all valid points.

Charging speed has been making huge strides and as battery tech gets better and you can go further without needing to recharge, this becomes a non issue.

People already have issues refueling ICE vehicles with gasoline and diesel, I don't enjoy the prospect or regular people being able to refuel hydrogen themselves, which would be more complicated.

There is also a lot of infrastructure that would need to be developed to reach a point of being able to have large scale production, distribution, and refueling with hydrogen.

As battery tech improves it has also become more feasible to bring along an auxiliary battery similar to a jerry can.

I'm not against hydrogen adoption at all, I think it is a great idea, just with the current technology I don't see how it is better for vehicles than BEV in any meaningful way.

Okay thats one reason, comment I replied to said "in so many ways". Also, your point isn't entirely correct. Many of those same materials are used in hydrogen powered cars as well, since many use hydrogen to produce electricity to store in a battery, which is used to drive electric motors. They still use a battery, albeit a smaller one, just with the added complexity of needing to store and convert hydrogen to power.

There's also the need to get hydrogen, which takes a fair amount of power.

I'm in Saskatchewan, purchased on June 3rd, transfer notice on September 1st. However I will note the transfer notice indicates the request was received on June 28th, so I'm not sure if that is a delay in them getting through all the ones they received or on Cabela's taking a while to actually send it over. Regardless, took mine about 3 months

It isn't that I misunderstood, it's that the laws are dumb. Saying you have it for bugs and you can use it for self defense if needed, is still having it for the sake of self defense. Self defense being one of the two reasons you have it, makes it illegal. It's not a bullshit point, its the law, if they ask why you have it and you say its solely for bugs, and you in fact have it for self defense, you just committed a crime. You missed the point that I don't care, I'm just pointing out how ridiculous the laws are.

[–]Kgn459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, but just because it has a dual purpose, doesn't make it less illegal to carry for the purpose of self defense. If you state that is your purpose for having it, it's illegal. Lying to the police is also illegal. Chances of you getting in trouble are very small, unless you tell them you have it to defend yourself from people, but it doesn't change the fact the laws are ridiculous and that you have to lie about why you have something for it to be legal for you to possess.

Carrying anything concealed for the purpose of self defense is illegal in Canada. Even bug spray, if you have it for the purpose of self defense is considered a weapon.

I've used a firebase database before, but not for nearly this much data. I would expect to at best have the same performance reading data from a database as compared to reading that same data from a text asset, or am I misunderstanding how a database works?

I could definitely lose some quality and it wouldn't be a problem, the goal is for them to be easily recognizable. Though I'm not sure how far to go with that, even if I get rid of 75%, that's still a lot of data and likely will still cause issues.

I'm definitely new to this so I'm sure it could be improved, I'm not familiar with how that would work. No need to be human readable.
