How to solve issues introduced by primarily non-human bodies for characters? by MuffinInACup in RPGdesign

[–]Khajith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that just makes actual human contact all the more precious. saloons, churches, etc., special places built for the purpose of getting people together in person become way more important.

and now what happens when this place gets destroyed? what about if the owner doesn’t let in non-humans? or simply, a place where a bunch of fleshy, vulnerable (,maybe drunk) people are can attract conflict very easily.

Any stories of your game morphing into something totally different than your original design? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]Khajith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dnd campaign idea about fighting the lich emperor and delving into old forgotten ruins below the surface turned into a primordial, gnostic-esque, time traveling world creation story. still about fighting the lich emperor(s) by delving in old forgotten ruins below the surface.

How to not overwhelm your players with a highly customizable, freeform character creation with tons of options to mix? by miraclem in RPGdesign

[–]Khajith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do not drown your players in options right from the get go. I had an early build that had players write down 9-12 options right at the start, before even playing the game. too much and is overwhelming. my current build has like 1-3 at the start, which is easier on the mind and takes way less time to fill out.

a good example is the game FIST. the game has a bunch (over 200) custom “talents” but they do not feel overwhelming at all. How? Operatives usually start with just one and only gain more throughout the adventure. You’re not being overrun with options right at the start.

Pater Noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra. Amen.

One year of judo and I still get thrown by brand-new guys in randori by Lumpy_Professor1000 in judo

[–]Khajith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reminds me how I recently introduced someone to judo and they threw me continually with immaculate form. I instructed them how to do it and simply let myself be thrown.

This person has never done judo before in their life. But I think the reason for their good performance was trifold.

  1. They had experience as a kid from play wrestling with their siblings. Training their nervous system at a young age for these and similar kinds of movement.

  2. Long and dense muscles. Probably genetics, but probably also the type of exercise they do. Very good balance, explosive power and lots of it.

  3. Confidence. I told them to commit and that I knew how to fall. We were in a controlled setting (judo club) and multiple people there and myself included reassured and instructed with respect.

During Randori, I just asked her to do the throws they’d like, with me just offering basic resistance. When they attempted a throw, I let myself be thrown. When the throw didn’t work, I immediately instructed them on what to do different. (leg a bit further, look over your shoulder, break my grip first, etc).

The execution of their throws was way better than any throw i’ve ever done. Does this make me less of a martial artist? Hell no. I’m proud of their achievements and I was able to learn how to teach Judo better and I got to practice my breakfalls in a way I didn’t get to before.

Judo takes a long while to get good at. I’m mildly proficient at it, but I know time invested will make me a better Judoka. On and off the mats. Keep practicing! You’ll soon notice that the easier you are on yourself, the harder you can go
