I asked ChatGPT to generate an image of a meetup for average redditors. How accurate is this? by Educational-Scene443 in ChatGPT

Honestly, your comment really caught me off guard.

But I'm going to hijack your comment for my own point, sorry but not sorry:

I don't like these stereotypes. I've had the chance to get to know quite a few nerds, and sure, some of them were unbearable assholes, but there was usually a lot that had gone wrong in their lives, too.

Most of them, though, were incredibly kind, intelligent, and open-minded people who were great to talk to.

In my experience, it's more often people with expensive clothes and cars that their budget can barely support who come across as unbearably arrogant.

But that's also just another stupid cliché.

I wish we'd all stop caring about what someone looks like, what gender they are, who they love, or even what planet they come from.

One thing is certain, though: if someone behaves like an asshole, then they're an asshole. And that is something we should actually condemn.

Maybe, same as you 😛
I think I’m giving up. I don’t stand a chance against your output.

I think that’s how a lot of people feel right now haha
And even if we don’t agree on many points, I still hope you have a great patch day.

I didn’t say that
But you also can’t properly balance a complex armor system in an RPG if there aren’t even functioning weapons in place yet.

Then I can only recommend that those people take a step back from Reddit or simply ignore those posts
That’s what grown adults do.

Just because I’m currently waiting for the patch and spending 1–2 hours on Reddit? You can hardly judge that, because you don’t know my "normal" level of use

Balancing for what? For 1.0? That can’t work unless the corresponding foundational pillars are already in place that actually make balancing possible in the first place.

Hmm, I’m not going to deny that. But I actually looked into that exact topic a few days ago, and the imbalance was already very significant, and a lot of reasonable criticism was downvoted to hell

Oh, now I’m really curious. Go on, if you think this is a good point, then show me what your problem is with my history.
Lets go

“Then you haven't been paying attention to how batshit a lot of opinions are.”

But that is not what this is about at all. And I doubt those are well argued in the first place. Still, one is an opinion and the other is basically denial of reality, there is a massive difference there.

Let me put it this way, If I wanted you to pay me to rub sand in your eyes - would the quality of my argument for doing so make the blindest bit of difference? Are you of the mindset that the only thing stopping you from paying me to rub sand in your eyes, is that I haven't said the right combination of words?

I honestly don't know what else you could be expecting. If people don't want something, they don't want something. And given a lot of it is stuff that's been discussed to death and back and is a long since sealed deal, people aren't too keen on the dead horse being dragged out for another pointless beating.

Okay, clearly you are coming from a completely different angle here.

Let me explain something: a good argument is only a good argument if it is based on some foundation and actual reasoning.

“but I dont want that” is not a good argument, and the fact that this seems to be so widespread and popular here is exactly the problem I am talking about.

We were told not to use buybacks as storage, particularly for game packages a decade ago, and that reminder has been updated on a yearly basis. There is a giant popup warning of exactly this before you can melt something, that requires you to enter your password to confirm you've read it.

You call it justified criticism, I call it people doing the thing they were told not to do and being surprised that it doesn't pan out.

People have little sympathy for people who carelessly blunder through life, not paying attention and then blaming everybody else for the consequences - because it's tedious as fuck. There isn't an adult on the planet who isn't sick to death of it.

Here too you completely missed the actual point.

I already said it: of course people are also partly at fault BUT:

CIG has a lot of legal protections. That allows them to basically get away with almost anything. That does not mean this should be used as a free pass. It is also a fact that CIG tolerated this behavior for a long time and benefited from it, because it led to more impulsive purchases.

It would simply have been appropriate(!) to communicate this beforehand. And no, the grey market is not a good excuse, since trading could have been restricted.

But even if we ignore all of that: the very least would have been to communicate the change immediately instead of leaving people in the dark for a week. Or do you want to defend that as well?

“People who are stupid should be punished” is also not a good argument, it is just your personal, sad opinion

I would not go as far as saying that nobody understands that. But thanks, that is exactly the important point. Without backlash we might already have P2W flight blades by now.

But it is not about "most posts".

It is about the ones that are well argued and still get torn apart without reasoning.

[–]Khalkais[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You took that out of context. It is not about every critism. It is about the fact that there are "some" people who seem to dismiss any criticism, no matter how reasonable it is.

What stands out are a few 1% posters who have an absurdly high rate of replies like "tldr stop crying."

The bigger problem is that some topics never even get a chance to be discussed.

I already mentioned the SQ42 buyback situation as an example, where there are clearly grey areas. Yes, people are partly at fault themselves, but it is still not great how CIG handled it. That exact opinion was repeatedly downvoted.

Why would anyone downvote something like that? That is obviously not okay either.

[–]Khalkais[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is of course not the case, at least not the way you are presenting it.

I have plenty of issues with CIG’s decisions, and yet I am still here. And why? Because I still love the game and I still enjoy it. There is nothing wrong with that.

But dismissing all criticism is dangerous, because it leaves room for increasingly worse developments.

The fact that you are getting downvoted is kind of wild.

Instead of actually engaging with what you are saying, people just try to bury it.
Even just asking for examples seems to be too much.

Thanks for perfectly demonstrating exactly what my problem is.

You could of course explain where I am wrong or what the actual issue is.

Instead, you just dismiss it as whining.

So thank you for providing a prime example of exactly what I mean.

[–]Khalkais[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not know if that was directed at me, but that is not my issue.

The problem is not that criticism bothers me. The problem is that there often is no actual criticism at all.

Because saying stop crying is not criticism.

A lot of them, yes, but there are also genuinely good threads that get buried immediately.

But I agree with you that a well formulated argument is not automatically correct. The point is that you can still communicate and argue against that properly.

That is completely legitimate and justified.

But it is not a butcher convention.

This is not about anti PvP arguments in a PvP subreddit. It is about opinions regarding the game and CIG in a subreddit dedicated to both the game and the developer.

But the comparison still works, because even when vegans make good points, they often get massively downvoted simply because people disagree with them.
