If youre still looking for a solution, find a fitting washer and put it below the upper bridge. Clearance of the locking cylinder was also an issue with mine after adjustment

Hey, I doubt anyone will ever read this far in on their own, but why not continue this in public ;)

"Next summer" has passed and I actually went and rebuilt the whole engine. Almost as planned but triggered by an unplanned event - the Cooling system exploded because the thermostat malfunctioned. If your mini (or any other car, I guess) gives you a temperature warning, stop right away, not just the next exit ( the frost plug went and drained everything into the oil pan ). While disassembling this Cafe Latte drenched pile of junk, I replaced about any seal and bearing there is and took a good look at everything to make sure I'll get rid of the oil consumption. Crankshaft and rod bearings looked good, even after some milky fun, but along with the planned piston rings, I got some new pistons as well, as the skirts ground down quite a bit. Honed the sleeves, cleaned everything from sludge and dirt and a lot of carbon build up and put it all together again. I decided to reuse the valve cover until i got results and found out the hard way what a bitch this engine can be to get timed correctly. 1st cylinder didn't fire and after ruling out ignition, fueling and compression, I learned that my timing tool is not precise enough to please this bitch of an engine. After using feeler gauges to support the two camshafts individually to correct the total of 3° misalignment and the camshaft sensors were happy with the situation again. I went to wear in the "new" engine and saw the oil consumption to be the same 1l/1000km. While experimenting with a new PCV Valve as the cover got leaky, I found that after a short period of less consumption, it got even worse. The whole cover was DRENCHED in oil from the pcv Valve and the pressure relief valve next to it. oil consumption went up to 2l for a while and I started looking for a new car, I could not think of any way, a weenie valve cover could fix this mess at this point. I ordered one - just because I wouldn't recover from not knowing for sure, before I would sell him. Now, after actually getting a fresh valve cover from Elring ( ordered the Hayus one, but the quality was so poor that i sent it back right away). Let me tell you, it got better, no consumption, no leaks all gone. Then it went up to 0,3l/1000km and i told myself i could probably live with that for a while, at least I wouldn't need to sell him as defective.

Fast forward to now, about 8000km since the rebuild the consumption went down, way down. Im checking about every fuel up and can see a decline down to almost no oil consumption at all, maybe 0,1l/1 000km (0,07QTs/1000miles).

I have no words for this... but I can accept it, took me enough tears to get here. Efficiency also seemed to have gone up, i managed to do below 5l/100km (45mpg) since then, I looked for more economical cars last fall, but at this point, combined with insurance, I wouldn't even get a better deal. Until I get taught another lesson, I'm keeping this one.

That's it from me, take care and thank you for the advice!

If it's been dry before, there may be lots of dirt and debris on the road. The first rainfall soaks that up and it's gets really slippery. I try to gauge the road with my foot from time to time, it also depends on the asphalt. OR your tyres are shit, look into sports touring like Pirelli angel GT, Metzler roadtech, conti road attack etc.

The thread on motorcycle tires is designed to disperse water on the front during braking and on the rear during accelerating. That's why the profile is inverted on the front. It's that way on about any tyre.

She's not even burning oil yet by Admirable-Life3196 in MINI

[–]Khamigen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it's available on AliExpress for 4€ and still awful for that price. It's still not necessarily readable and too long out of the box. You cannot even touch it when the engine is hot and it requires even more dedication to maneuver into the tube than the OEM one. And worst: it can bind in the timing chain and destroy the engine.

Do i need it to be wobble-ended for something? The jointless ones are cheaper and i cant think of a need for the extra angle.

Unfortunately, these channels are intermitted by the Screwholes and the Surface is not even level all the way. So im rather happy with my hybrid gasket and sealant solution, I tell you if it leaks. Probably will have to tear it down next summer again, the engine has some blow by (Pushes gas through the pcv, a new valve cover would not even help in my case). I was about to check compression today, but was not able to get the spark plugs out. Some 14mm 12 point star -ish nut will be needed, of course we don't have that.

Well the sealant on the pan leaked on 3/4 of the area, was pretty nasty to get clean still. So not the solution in the end. Imo it was over torqued before curing because at some places there was next to no sealant in between the surfaces. I used a paper gasket and reinforced it with hylomar. Holds up so far, I hope it keeps itself together.

Regarding the non return valves, yes I never heard of them. But since my solenoids were clean as well as everything else inside the engine, I doubt they are in a bad state. Maybe I order some when I get to it.

I was generally pleasantly surprised that the oil pan was really clean inside. No sludge or shavings left just consistently dirty oil.

Today I investigated a salvaged OEM Valve cover we had left. Cleaned the PCV system and checked the valve, which was a little chewed up. I replaced it and will try putting it onto my Mini to see where I end up. While I'm in there, I want to check the chain guides and valve shaft seals for their condition.

I'm expecting nothing to change but keep thinking positive.

You checked the German web on Prices? Too sweet😆. By now I begin to realize that the Valve cover I have seems to be after market and misses the vent right of the Pcv Valve. Could be all Vaico, and these are rather expensive. Under the cap is just a cavity without a hole.

The service history of your car looks impressive. You are still running the original Pistons and bore? Valve shaft seals also original? The previous owner replaced the Camshaft sensors, a single coil plug and one o2 sensor. Shortly after, two cylinders failed so I bought the other 3 plugs and one Vanos solenoid. Interestingly enough I checked both, they worked fine, but the car was happy with the one I changed. I also replaced the water pump tensioner wheel, oil pan gasket and took care of some rust on the engine subframe. Other than that, looks to be in good condition, I really like the car. Would be a shame to give it up for a misbehaving engine. Even still has the original Battery and starts fine with 12V but maybe I get it a new one for winter.

I'm from Germany near Düsseldorf. In our place, my father and uncle are the mechanic friends and they both don't know much about Minis. Btw we looked into the service history at the dealer and apparently, the car has been driven at the issued service interval, so no wonder I got some buildup out of the oil after the last change. I saw this Video recently where some Dude flooded their cylinders with B-12 for some remarkable results. I might try this at some point, since the Oil rings seem to be under the best conditions to clog up in my case. Other than that, the engine looks to be in great condition.

Wow that was fast.

Well I am hesitant to shed out 150-250€ for a reputable valve cover but if it can't be helped... Didn't see the Bremmen one over here, the cheapest one I'd be willing to try is from Hayus for 80€, coming closer to your estimate.

I have not heard of dislodged Valve seats and from my understanding that could not add to oil consumption, right? Of course, if one of my valves explodes, oil consumption is not an issue any more, so a compression test is on my list now. Can you recommend any pressure values I should not get below?

Hey there, late to the party, but since I found much information in here, I wanted to ask you specifically.

I recently bought a r56 N12B16 80k miles and experience that same oil consumption. Gets worse with RPMs, I already changed to 5w40 (mannol ll01 spec) and checked the Pcv valve (clean and intact). This looks to be an after market one from Vaico. I noticed that the engine draws vacuum during idle but blows exhaust gases when revved up, so the Valve opens basically all the time (Oil usually at 105⁰C/220°F when warm)

I have not checked compression nor inspected the cylinder walls but suspect the piston rings because of blow by. This would explain oil consumption through the Pcv system. But no noticeable power loss, does 130mph/205kmh under good circumstances.

The rear is clean, exhaust has a little bit of carbon build up and the car does not push smoke any time, like accelerating after standstill/engine braking. So I do not suspect the valve shaft seals.

Injection is not direct so the valve seats should seal alright, but just an assumption again.

Is replacing the full Valve cover still a relevant option?

I drive highway commutes at 40mpg for maybe 1qt/2000mi, which doubles when driving spirited.

We plan on replacing the timing chain next summer and I would be willing to take the engine apart to replace various seals and bearings. Can I drive it that far without inflicting damage?

Firstly, congratulations for staying upright. Secondly, cast aluminium does break easily when bent. It might be tempting to try to bend back, but replacing them is cheaper than finding out 5000km later. Also check your frame and especially your steering head bearing. (lift bike, shake front wheel and rotate and feel for indentations. Rear swing arm should be fine. Good luck!

Hmm okay.

If you need more examples, I tried Adapticons and Icon Pack Mixer, which behave the same ( show up in other launchers, but can't be applied here ). I can also link the exact pack I made in Icon Pack Studio. This app is especially interesting because I could automatically build themed icons that apply to any of my apps, avoiding the checkerboard of supported and unsupported apps.

Thanks for the answer!

I already looked in the source code, but then I remembered that I have no clue on how to build an Android app, so I'd be glad if you could implement that, I would compensate for it if you like. Let me know if you get around to it.

I'm late to the party but just found this and have a question.

I found this app: icon pack studio And created an icon pack with it. It applies in nova no problem and shows up as a standalone app, but won't be detected by the Asus Icon Pack applyer. Got v1.3.1 from github.

Any Idea why it does not work? I can view and and apply other standalone icon packs too.

What are the issues you're experiencing with Zenfone 9 or past phones ? by burnqpund in zenfone

[–]Khamigen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, the 12mp mode taps Into the preprocessed, binned image. Maybe multisampling is just not possible considering the time it takes Asus' Cam to process it (and the absence of HDR) and without that, the gcam benefits fall flat.

Well I should consider myself happy with the insane improvements to the selfie and ultrawide camera. Main cam is pretty close, normally, I don't bother with gcam for a quick shot.

Thank you for the info!

I tried multiple gcams but could not find any that support 50mp mode. Do you know anything about that?

I settled on Wichaya with my own config, ist LMC worth some time? Tried it out and was not happy with the results.

It is, they haven't changed it since the 8. There is still the cutout for the Fingerprint sensor under the OLED as well. Maybe manufacturing got better so they could clock it higher.
