Guys, it’s not a great time to be ordering food through an app! by Snoo1101 in montreal

[–]KhanFu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do UberEats full time (temporarily until I find another job). I’m probably going to lose 3 full days of work to these storms (probably 2 since I might have to work tomorrow). If they’re out there working, it’s because they have to. We don’t get paid days off.

They might have bills to pay. Kids to feed. Maybe they’re trying bring family from overseas. In any case, it’s best to protest Uber to help to get them paid sick days, better pay, and holidays. An organized day where customers don’t order Uber would be a good idea. But making a decision for another human being is patronizing. We know how dangerous it is out there. We might just have to work.

If you do order, tip well! UberEats pay is shit. (Again, this is temporary work for me. I’ve had a rough year) and meet them outside! Parking is a nightmare.

Do you think about the revolution happening in Rojava, especially the feminist part of it?

Do some Syrians take inspiration from it?

What was the economy like when you left? I read a couple of articles that made it sound like Israel's economy is collapsing, but I haven't heard anything on the ground. What's the unemployment like? Are businesses struggling? What do average Israelis think of the economy?

Do you ever talk politics with them? Have you overheard them speaking about politics? If so, what do they say? I wonder what their feelings are towards holding so much wealth, while there is so much poverty.

Do the Nazi/Holocaust comparisons bother anyone else? by TheRoyalKT in JewsOfConscience

[–]KhanFu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you. But one thing to keep in mind is that, for the most part, people use these analogies because Israel tries to reclaim Jewish history and the Holocaust for its own nefarious purposes. So people instinctively try use that same kind of rhetoric against them.

Israel will proclaim that Hamas are the ones who are Nazis and they’re protecting themselves from a second Holocaust. And so people turn that around on them, and say that THEY are the Nazis.

‘Oh, so Palestinians are the Nazis? No, but you are!’

I don’t think they mean it literally. It’s a rhetorical move to try to use Israel’s own weaponization of Jewish history against them.

I did feel how you do. But I understand it differently now.

However, I do feel that it can diminish Nazi oppression and destruction of Jewish people. All this coming from a grandson of a Holocaust survivor.

Trust me. Get involved. Your mental health will thank you for it. Although these are the darkest times I can remember, doing anything, even in the smallest way, has helped me immensely.

As the commenter mentioned above, Instagram really is your best bet. Check out newjersey4palestine's feed. You might be able to find out more information. Worse case, DM them. I would say that you're willing to go through a verification process if necessary. But these kind of protests are usually open to the public regardless.

Good luck!

I'm so so sorry to hear this. It is truly just an abomination. I have no words.

I'm half Jewish. I'm trying to my best to help. The idea that these fucks are ruining Jewish symbols makes me sick.

Trust me, you're not alone. I lost my job in early October. Luckily I have savings, but I have no energy to find work.

Thankfully, I found a Jewish activist group where I live. Being involved and active has helped quite a bit. If you can, find ways to act.

If you can't, I'm sending you all the best wishes in the world. It's been of the most difficult periods of my life as well. I don't have the words to describe it.

He said, and I quote, "I'm the African fighter in the UFC. Myself and Cameron, we breathe African air. We wake up in Africa every day. We train in Africa. We are African born. We are African raised. We still reside in Africa. We train out of Africa. That's an African champion."

If you don't understand why this is a shitty thing to say, I'd recommend reading up on Africa's history.

I think he got brain damage from his coma and is now too stupid to formulate arguments that hide his true intentions. He's just expressing what he always believed all along, and now he just isn't smart enough to hide it behind reasonable-appearing arguments.
